The three Deere dealers around here sell other equipment, one of them sells Kubota as well.

I'm thinking it's BS, he wanted to cut back on inventory expense by only having one line. Sweeten it with some volume discounts and throw in which ever manufacturer offered the best deals or programs.

Our local dealers carry other brands. In the Zero turn market my local JD dealer has JD and Lazer. The only tractors however are JD. Frontier equipment as well. Local Kubota dealer has just Kubota I am pretty sure. Kubota sells Land Pride implements. My JD 3320 dealer (also 30 miles away) said he can get woods and others. His lot is pretty much JD on site and most of that is big AG size equipment. All also sell various chainsaws like Steihl and Husq.

One of the dealers near me sells only Deere (it's the largest dealer of the three), another sells other implements etc, but only Deere tractors, and the third sells Deere and Cub and New Holland and boatloads of other brands of everything from Skidoos to woods mowers -- It's a small tractor dealer, but a big place with lots of sales.

They are all about 30 miles from me.

Just my experience.

I have to say, it sounds like a dealer who decided to drop a line and wanted someone to blame, so he didn't loose his customers. Might be a new rule or something, but it seems unlikely.

My Local Deere dealership is Napoloeon Lawn And Leisure. While they only advertise that they carry Stihl, JD, and Honda, I came to find out recently that they also sell Ag-Meir products and can get parts for older Continental Belton accessories.

I really don't know much about this stuff at all, but it seems to make sense that JD would not or cannot impose new policy on existing dealers. However, if new contracts are signed then the most recent terms are forced. So you may find lots of dealers selling anything/everything they want, and new or recently reorganized dealers selling only JD, assuming that is JD policy.
A "grandfathered" thing, if you will.

I haven't taken delivery on my 2305 yet, but when I do, it will have a Woods box scraper on the back of it. Didn't see any other brand of tractors at the dealer (but I wasn't really looking for any!)

( ABC Groff[/url] in New Holland, PA. They sell JD, NH, and just about every implement under the sun, many different brands. (Good website to cruise around on, they have everything). They're probably just so well-established and big that Deere wouldn't want to lose them by playing hardball. )

They are about 45 minutes from me. Infact, we have hired about 7-8 our our employees from them. They are not a very big shop, last I was there they probably had 7-8 green tractors. Deere probably will never pull out of there because they are about two miles from New Holland's offices and production facilities.

I've heard from several other dealers that Deere is headed in the direction of thinning out the smaller dealers and just having well established businesses that are Deere only. This does seem to be the growing trend, you hear about this stuff alot. It was talked about at the last Woods meeting I was at. There are 4-5 times as many Woods/Kubota dealers as there are Woods/Deere.... wonder why? Its not quality or price thats for sure.

My local L&G dealer just sold his real estate and license to the competing dealer across the street. The other dealer that bought it carries the Deere Ag line as well as Kubota, Cub, Bobcat, and many different company's implements. They have quite a few existing locations that carry all the different brands and Deere didn't seem to have a problem with that.

Neil -- you have probably heard of these guys through your Abbottstown shop:

Finch Services

(It was the old W.L. Sterner in Hanover)

A larger "chain" is buying out my local, independant, dealership. The word is, Deere wants one order for 20 machines, not 2. Then let the dealer locate them wherever he wants within his 20 or so lots. I'm not sure, but Deere might use pricing to encourage this.

Same ol thing that is happening everywhere you turn. The small guys are going out and the big guys are coming in. Good and bad....
