If you are drawing unemployment benifits take advantage of it - that is where some of your tax money goes.

Also, IIRC, it costs your former employer a certain amount if you are drawing unemployment...

One who works for low wage (dispproportionaly low wage to your work position) doesn't value his own work. I wouldn't work for low wage. You will just get stuck there. They should pay you going wage in the area.

And this just might have been the tactic of the employer who 'talked him down' to $10 - to see just how much the OP valued, or didnt value, his time and work. I mean, if you are willing to work for $10 a hour, are you going to do $10 an hour work too? Maybe not, but know he is wondering..

Last actual job I ever had was as a Maintenance Manager at a medium sized company you all know, but never heard of.. I knew what the job paid, but during my interview I asked for more than that. When asked why I thought I should get paid that amount, I replied 'Do you want someone willing to settle for $xxx quality, or $XXX quality?' I got the job..

For future reference, you will probably need to adapt to the standards set for the job. If it is supposed to take an hour then you will have to get pretty close to that budget or the employer will find someone who will. Just the facts of business. Arguing that you can't do a good job in that amount of time will just cause dollar signs to appear on your face - you then become a cost that needs to be cut.

I'm looking into both heavy equipment mechanic openings, farm and AG equipment and also back to trucking. With all this experience I have with HD trucks I may end up back there but only time will tell.

Today has been such a huge reminder if I had my CDL than I would already have a job somewhere. I wanted to get it at my last job but it was 500$ and several classes that were inconvenient at the time

I would love to absolutely!! What are the ways of obtaining one without signing up for two years with a trucking company ? I would enjoy hauling bob cats and backhoes, driving grain truck for farmers and not to mention a CDL and being either a HD truck mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic go hand in hand!

I used to have a michigan chauffeurs and drive wrecker and grain truck. I had to drop it in Indiana

any idea on the cost? I so wish I could get with a company that will help purchase my CDL while a work for them as a mechanic/ and or a driver. Not to say it won't happen.

You may, as an unemployed person, qualify for training funds. Ask the folks at the CDL driver schools, they will know.
