Had a relative work at the oil sands(Alberta) as a heavy equipment mechanic. 3 weeks on, 12 hour shifts, 2 weeks off... I think. Yearly income was $100k plus. They were feed well, had great accommodations and top end service facilities.

A truck mechanic should have no problem finding work, here there's only 2 local shops. Both are booked solid and charge like they want to. My late friend Olen Parsons was one of the best older mechanics and super meticulous. I don't recall one do over from his work and it was because he didn't do shortcuts unless it was to get off the road to the shop. He was known to drop a transmission to helicoil a stripped bell housing bolt because it needed to have all ten bolts in place and torque to spec.

If someone wanted a patch job or wanted it halfway fixed he turned the job down.

Kevin. I tried to leave. Applied for numerous US immigration lotteries years ago. Now I have too much stuff going on too move. Business and Personal. If more people took their heads out of the sand and saw what is actually going on in this country, and how the system of politics just manipulates and treats Canadians as the suckers they are, they wouldn't be so **** proud anymore. NOTHING to be proud of here! Not anymore!

Isn't that suppose to be jump from the frying pan into the fire??? Either way, not so sure that it is any better down here. You know, grass is always greener type of thing. :confused3:

I believe that it is best to make the most out of the hand that you were dealt. Sometimes that hand changes, so you have to make adjustments along the way.

I have a side job set up repairing a carpet company owners propane forklifts. I checked it out today and it's working out well. This is one of the jobs I will be doing on the side while I apply for jobs. A sturdy taxed job is very nice but in between I have no money coming in till all drug test etc are completed for new job. I found this side work and plowing snow. Thank you guys for all your support!
