lost tractor key

   / lost tractor key #41
I managed to lose my key while I was driving the tractor. It's still out there in the field, somewhere. The dealer charged me $5.50 for two new ones, and she gave me a Kubota-orange key ring to hang them from, just so I wouldn't do that again.

How did u misplace the key while driving the tractor? Can u remove the key and it will keep running? Never tried. I had an ole amc hornet that u could do that with. :)

on my 2305 jd I used a leather shoe lace stuck it through the key and it was long enough to hang on the go fast lever. I sure it will stay there.

I have to revive this old thread...sorry.... I lost my 1st key ever !!! Does anyone live in the Rockwall TX area that would let me make copy of their key for a BX2200 , I have the ignition switch in my hand , The closest Kubota dealer is in Frisco , 30+ miles away , we could meet at Ace Hardware ? I know this could be interpreted as a scam , but your welcome to come to my house to see its really my tractor . Thanks . Happy Thanksgiving .

When I look at the messicks web site I see they sell Kubota keys with a specific part number " 37410-55150 " , how does a person determine which part number key will fit my ignition switch . The switch doesn't seem to have a number that matches the key part number ?

I think there's only one key for all swithes

When I needed a spare BX key, I took one to the dealer for matching. The parts man didn't bother to look at it, just reached into a box of keys and handed me one. It worked.

On our B2650 my wife's Ford Escape key works perfect, go figure.

In my mind I'm sure the one and only key I had , had more bumps - contours than the picture on messicks , I guess I'll be driving to Frisco , totally bites , my fault for not getting a spare sooner , lesson learned LOL .

I have never had the keys to my tractors or lawnmowers out of the switch. You don't loose them that way. Since most tractor/lawnmower keys are generic and will fit any other item, it is not much use to remove them. Next door neighbor lost the key to her lawnmower, I started it with my Swiss army knife using the leather punch. She found an old tubeless tire repair tool and used that till she found another key that would work(just about any will work).

When I brought my tractor back to town I forgot to take the key out of the ign. When I got home it was gone, probably the big keyfob blowing around pulled it out.

So I made a key by memory out of Aluminum and used it for a month. Then one day lifted the seat and there was my original key - it didn't get far! But I couldn't throw away my new "spare" handmade key, kept using it. Then someone else started the tractor & broke it off in the hole. GRRRRRRR....that was a hassle taking the lock apart. Got spanked for that one !

Another time, a friend called and wanted to use my tractor. I had the key 100 miles away. So I texted him a photo of the key and a couple dimensions. He made one and started my tractor.

This is a Kubota B2710. Very simple key.

The TC40DA and the Boomer 8N use different keys. I bought my TC40DA used with only one key. I just received the 2 spares I ordered from Messick's. Easier than driving 86 miles round trip to the closest dealer.

Removing the key sends a message to a friend or neighbor who tends to borrow your tractor without permission. They're not trying to steal it, just borrow.

For a Model, it's the same exact key... and that same key may be used on several different models. I think only kubota sells them, I don't think a locksmith has "blanks".

Yes, correct. No keymaker has the blanks. They are unique to Kubota. And the lousy dealer I went to charged me $12 and some odd cents for 2 keys. What a ripoff. May have cost them 25 cents. By the way, I have two B2150s, a BX2200 and have bought a BX2230 and another BX2200 for others. All those keys are the same.

And Massey Ferguson keys are the same across a broad bunch of models. One dealer told me not to bother to leave my key with the tractor there because they have one that fits all of them. Entirely possible there is a different key for each major model line or something but that was not the impression I got from the dealer.

Yes, one of my B2150's will not retain the key. You can pull it right out while it is running. I have to keep a lanyard on the key looped around the throttle lever to keep from losing the key. I assume the switches wear in that manner.

Our B3030 cab tractor takes a "B" key while the door locks use a "L" key.
So I can start a B or L tractor with my keys.
Can anyone verify other Kubota key types so we can start collecting them?
Sure would be handy when visiting the dealer lot!

Not true, they key blank for my Grand L series Kubota is used on Satoh Mahindra and some Kobelco. Has ILCO 1540 as the blank number.

Ilco 154 Kubota Tractor Key Blank Pack of 1 - - Amazon.com

The key situation depends on which vendor is used for the key switch, Kubota may have a few tumbler profiles exclusive to them but the switches are used all over the place.

No typical, handy and readily available key maker in your hometown -- like Lowes or Home Depot or your hardware store -- carry blanks for Kubota keys. TRUE.

Among other things, the Ilco blank you show on Amazon does not fit any of my Kubota tractors. P1030496.JPG

On my M4700 the key is a rather simple key. I was able to go to my local "key shop" (Baldino's) and they had a blank made by Ilco and I had them make several copies for about a buck each (I tend to misplace keys). This tractor requires pulling out a lever to stop it. Key turns it on, but not off.
My B7610 it has one of the "universal Kubota small tractor keys" which I think I paid about $2@ at my local Kubota dealers. They remind me of the keys I use to get in small german hotels, big and clumsy so we rarely carried them around just left them at the desk.
