Geez. A tough way to make a living, gotta have a lot of respect for a guy like that.
Yep. He was all hunched over and Gladys said she had to pull him up out of bed each morning and rub down his joints with liniment oil to get him moving. He was a stout man, huge upper body strength, hands like sledge hammers with vice-like grip. Made a good living for him and his family. Three boys. One joined him in the business as I recall. I used to see them in the grocery store holding hands. Well into their 80's, he leaned over against her in church one Sunday, and died immediately. She moved away to live with her daughter and I never saw her again.
