Can I use Deere's Low viscosity hystat oil to deep fry my turkey? If so.............will it taste OK?

Matt, I thought it would be okay. I just wanted to check here first. I'm glad I finally found a good use for all that used oil.
Happy Thanksgiving to all TBN members!

Go with Mobil 1 , you can run at a higher temp and it will be easier to poor out of the pot tonight when it is cold ! (might even get an extended oil change interval) Happy Thanksgiving and be safe !

Is it better to use synthetic oil to cook a turkey? Does dino flavor go with turkey?

Just returned from dinner at my parents. Everyone loved the deep fried turkey. Said ''it had a really unique flavor''

Motor oil is not food grade. Might taste okay but would have potential carcinogens absorbed into the meat. Synthetic likely wouldn't but might have some metallics in the additives. Not sure what the additives are in a synthetic. There are plenty of heavy metals that I wouldn't want to ingest in dino motor oil, not too much in transmission type oil. Gear oil would be loaded with carcinogenic aromatic molecules unless it's synthetic or hydrotreated.

Melted wax is food grade, but the amount you need would be pretty expensive.

Have you checked into getting some Wesson, peanut oil or other type of cooking oil?

If you use oil with detergents you won't have to clean the pot afterwards.

Everyone knows you can't use Deere oil to fry a turkey!

I was thinking a couple oz of STP would give it a nice smokey flavor.

Ralph

Try peanut oil in your Benz. If it works, I'll fry my turkey in it.

Ralph, I have some peanut oil, but I was just trying to get double use out of the hydro oil. It's getting so expensive these days. It has been two days and no one is showing any ill effects.........must be okay. One thing I forgot to mention. That turkey was the most beautiful color I've ever seen come out of a fryer. The only complaint was from my brother, he said he had the ''runs'' the next morning. Of course he always complains about something. Now all I have to do is schedule another hydro change just before Thanksgiving next year!

Cancer takes about 10-20 years to show up in many cases.

I used to have a saying about particularly bad fried food-

Deep fried in used Gulfpride.

Course nowadays most have never heard of Gulfpride....so it doesn't get through to them;)
