Hi,

I am in the north Houston, TX area. I am leaning towards buying a LS tractor, new, for my property.

I have about 15 acres of land which needs cleaning, moving logs and debris, flattening, and discing etc.

I received the following quotes from a LS dealer about 75 miles away from me. I will pay cash, so I am hoping for a slightly better deal??

The quotes I received are:

  1. LS Tractor LS XR4140H Hydro Base Tractor ~$23,400
  2. LS Tractor LS XR4145 Hydro Base Tractor ~$26,000
  3. LS Tractor LS XR4140HC (with cab) Hydro Base Tractor ~$26,500
  4. LS Tractor LS XR4145 Hydro (with cab) Base Tractor ~$30,000

How much room do you think I have for negotiation?

Which of these models would you choose?

What other accessories should I add on at time of purchase? I am planning to search for the implements separately, but I believe I can add some ballast tires, etc.

I am open to buying from another dealer if you know of any with better pricing and service.

Thank you,

Tan

I'm wondering if you have your model numbers wrong... in that it seems way too high of a price increase for only five horsepower. Did you mean to say the XR 4155 instead of the 4145? The price you're listing for the 4140 seem right, but if should only be about $1500 increase between the number jumps (ie xr4140 to 45, 45 to 50, 50 to 55...)

Hi @TSO

The price difference I was quoted for the 4140 H and 4145 H is about $2400, that is without negotiation.

What price should I aim to get the 4140 H and 4140HC without any additional implements?

Is the ~$1500 incremental worth it extra 5HP?

What are some of the other dealer add ons I should get? e.g. different tires etc.

Do I need AG tires or industrial tires? I have ponding/water accumulation in some parts of my property.

Thank you,
Tan

Being in Texas I think having a cab tractor with A/C would be nice.

You'll have to ask the dealer whether a cash sale would net a better price. It did for me when I bought 3 years ago.

When comparing XR series to other brands just remember the XR's are premium tractors and come with more options that others would charge extra for. You need to add those extras to the prices when quoting other brands.

XR4140 prices seem in the ballpark. A few members here bought their XR4145HC for 28K so 30K seems a little high or it may be the 4150 price as TSO mentioned.

Attachment prices depend on the dealer. Some give a better discount when buying with the tractor, some don't.

The 4140 should be fine if you're just using the loader and basic 3pt equipment, but if you'll be doing extensive PTO work, you'll want the extra HP. Basically the engine is the same with fuel pump adjustments giving the 5 HP increases between models.

I would not give up having a cab on my main-use tractor.

The price difference between XR4140HC and XR4145HC was $1300 on my recent dealer quote.

Hi Tangoddess
In Woodville Tx, about 2 hours away from Houston
Iam sitting on a quote for a 2017 XR4145 w/loader for $23,500 or a 2016 XU 5055 for $27,750
Both with loaders and shuttleshift trannys
Talk to Brian (owner) at Tyler County Tractor, or use these #s to hammer your closer dealer.
Good luck

Generally there is money to be made off the back end of the deal with financing so usually paying cash doesn't save anything. That's from people in the business. I don't think there is a lot of room on your deal. Where you may be able to negotiate is the implements but I'm not sure. I usually look for deals on CL for implements.

It looks like you are getting reasonably fair quotes but I agree with TSO that it looks like your numbers may be cross threaded. The price increase's should be fairly linear. They were when I bought an LS about 1 year ago.

As far as which tractor, being in South Texas I would take the two non-cab models off the table and leave them off. The cab would be more important than the horsepower to me. Then just decide how much horsepower you want to buy. Remember, weight dictates how much work your tractor will do. Horsepower dictates how fast it will do it. My 4155HC weights 6700 lbs with a heavy 6' BB and a bolt on tooth bar on certified scales.

I have the R4's (Industrial Tires) and couldn't be happier. I don't run any added weight. I mostly do clean up/leveling BB (box blade) dirt work in yards. Those big R4's keep you from making tracks yet provide tons of grip. I recently chiseled about 25 acers of hard pan (I bet you have some of that down there) then used a finish disc on it. The R4's did great on the hard pan on the first pass. After the dirt was worked up it became obvious that R1's (Ag Tires) would have have been the tire to have at that point. Since I mostly run the BB on the LS the R4's are the best overall fit.

All that being said, if your not running in plowed/soft ground mostly then avoid the R1's. For the chores you listed the R4's would be the best fit and will last forever.

For add on's maybe fluid fill the rear tires and maybe add suitcase weights on the front? I'm guessing you have some big thorn trees so I'm not sure about the fluid in the rear tires. The only time I have wished for extra weight was pulling that chisel.

I can't help on any other dealers in your area, I'm too far away.

One last thing I might add. The cab's aren't real big on that model. Make sure you fit in it comfortably and make sure you have enough foot room while getting in an out. I wear a size 12 and it is a pretty tight fit.

Good luck on your decison!

This is so confusing the pricing
I was just quoted
Xr4140hc $27500
Xr4155hc $29900

High on the 40hp low on the 55hp
I'd jump on 40 for $26500 if it was offered in my area for that price

At my dealer in Western WI an XR4140HC runs $26,980 (Comes with a quick hitch, fluid filled rears, and a radio). My salesman said $1,500 for every 5 hp increase above the 40 hp base model.

If you search for my threads you can find all the details on my XR4155HC purchase, I'm very happy with the route I took. My dealer didn't budge on the price, but I got a set of pallet forks, 50 hour service work, delivery, and some LS gear thrown in for free on my purchase.

Wow I would have bought mine already at that price. My dealer was $1000 more for just the tractor (well rear wiper)

28,350 at my local upstate NY dealer .. got an ordered new XR4145 hydro cab with rear wiper delivered to me 2 weeks later same day as it arrived at my dealers lot from the plant. was happy with the deal. my dealer said I can get the LS hoe for 7,000 if I want it installed. no loaded tires , I had to do on my own. I purchased 20 dollar radio at walmart and installed on my own as well.

Bridenbeckers equipment. Marcy NY. he didn't want to take the deal.. but I knew which tractor I wanted.., I just sold my new holland earlier in the day. I walked in with the bank check I got from New Holland sale and literally sat it on the counter. after a half hour of shootin it and looking at the tractor that he just sold for over 30k earlier in the day (same one as I wanted) he accepted the offer. He called supplier on the spot and bought a full load (4 tractors) to expedite delivery. My tractor showed up in 2 weeks, mint.. with free rear wiper. the owners name is Dave. you know how it goes.. money talks and bull....walks... I was very happy with the deal. after owning many new hollands and knowing that LS builds them... I couldnt bring myself to spend the extra 7,000 for the same tractor with different loader. I have local New Holland dealer that is awesome that I purchased several compacts from.. but new cab new hollands are expensive. if you havent yet, look at New Holland and LS. they are literally the same. except color of blue and paint.. LS has the better regen system every 50 hours vs like every 5 hours with New holland.. and no def.
