LS MT 225S

   / LS MT 225S #21
The neighbors new MT225-S arrived. All I have to say is it is absolutely awesome! They took some of the best features of the larger tractors and added them to an improved larger sub compact. Best of both worlds! It has the quietest HST that I have heard... in this case not heard... no whine at all!

Tilt wheel is infinite positions, just push on a little floor lever. It has a position control 3pt control, a nice improvement over the 125. The seat is reclining and has adjustable armrests controlled by turning a wheel, also has some better spring suspension. The operator station is well thought out and controls easily reached. The SSQA is full size, there is a bucket level indicator rod. The 3 range transmission is a major improvement.

I took a bunch of pictures next to my 3025, the hoods are almost the same height. The 25-S is definitely a bit narrower. The turning radius is almost as tight as the 125.

Thanks for the pictures. This pandemic may have saved me from buying the wrong LS. I was looking at an MT125 back in March and I put my purchase on hold until I saw how my finances would survive.

Hi Guys,

Dealer got the 25S in along with the mid mount mowers. Overall I really like the tractor. Excellent fit and finish. A couple things I am not crazy about is the loader control but I didn't care for that design on the Kubota B2601 either just prefer the lever inside the fender with cable controls like the 2032R Deere. The 3 point lift arms could be a little more stout and they used a thinner steel on the vertical mounts for the loader mast than the XJ and sub compact. Nevertheless a real sweet machine. Notice the difference in tread depth on the Tiron R4's on this machine compared to Titan/Carlisle. I would say there is at least 33% less rubber on these tires so wondering if this was intentional to give the machine less impact with the mid mount mower?

I registered just to follow updates on the MT225S, appreciate everyone's insight so far. Almost pulled the trigger on a 1025R last weekend and am going to check out an MT125 tomorrow. I caught wind of the 225S and it has me very intrigued, but the nearest LS dealer is an hour away and he's not a high volume dealer to boot. Next closest is about an hour and a half away so I'm pretty reliant on 2nd and 3rd hand feedback from this place. I'll be lurking, but I appreciate the insight so far.

Some real world info... today , we took off the loader. Real simple and easy, done in maybe 3 minutes. The built in loader support legs were easier to deploy than the ones on the MT125.

Then hooked up the 72 in finish mower on the 3 point, no issues. Actually it was easier than my XG3025 because you can put the 225-S PTO in neutral and turn the PTO shaft to line up the shaft. Made it much easier for sure.

The tractor did not even feel like it had a finish mower on the back! 540 PTO speed occurs at 2600 rpm, the engine was very smooth and surprisingly seemed quieter than my XG and the 125. Plenty of power.

We cut about an acre, it was actually fun on this tractor. Very maneuverable, tight turning radius. Overall, I think my neighbor made a very good choice!

Ok got my attention- contacted dealer still out 2 weeks for my unit with MMM mounted at Battleboro, NC. They have been slammed with demand for this LSMT225s much more demand than was anticipated. Wonder if the RK & Mahindra Brands will jump in with gap model filler to compete. Kioti was on par to release updated model CX series. It will be interesting how this unit handles MMM. Keep you posted on how the MMM works.

FYI, Mahindra already has the Max series to compete in the Small Compact market.
Here are some of the competitors in that weight class.
  • Kubota B50/LX
  • Deere 2025r
  • Massey Ferguson 1526
  • Mahindra Max
  • Kioti CK2510/CX2510
  • LS XJ2025 / MT225s

There was a lot of hype about the new Kioti CK / CX series.... until it was revealed that it still only had a 2 speed transmission. Not sure of the other brands.

I noticed the TYM 264 Tony tractor adventure is advertising has only 2 speed transmission. He is making the best of the unit in his review. I think the tractor is a economy buy - good for a first time Buyer. 18.5 K with MMM and FEL. Cheaper than Mahindra for sure.

OK, my turn to see one. My dealer said he didn't run into any backlog. Ordered one and it showed up a couple of weeks later.

Troubles for me are the fuel filler position and the FEL Joystick that virtually eliminates right side boarding.

Hadn't unpacked the Hoe and Mower yet, but you can see the drive over ramps.

he traded in the 125! He took a $1000 hit on the 125, but used the money for the BH to put towards the 25-S. Total cost OTD with rear remotes was $16,100. He worked the BH into the deal so he got the discount price for it, but will get it in another couple of months.

Can you clarify ... was that turning in the 125 with MMM and BH, plus an additional $16K to get the 225S with MMM and BH ? My dealer wasn't able to work up a trade quote on the spot.

CK has a three speed transmission

No, he initially paid $12,900 for the 125, tractor and loader only. He was at the dealer to have the BH added to the 125 for $3,000 and $450 for rear remotes (total $3450). They gave him $11,900 for the 125 trade in (so he lost $1,000) from what he paid for it.

He applied the money he was going to spend on the BH and remotes towards the 225-S. He got a price of $15,600 for the 225-S, and he added the remotes for a cost of $500, so a total of $16,100.

He will be going back to get the BH for the 225-S in about 2 months (he needs to get the cash together) which will cost $5200, which is the package pricing. The specs on the BH are better than the hoe I have on my XG3025! So that is why it costs so much.

CK has a three speed transmission

Better check again.... the CK2510 DOES NOT have a 3 range. There is a thread in the Kioti section discussing this. The website shows a 3 range on the HST, but not on the gear version. Another member went to his Kioti dealer and confirmed that it had a 2 range only. Again, talking the 2510, Not the 2610.

The CK 2610 has a 3 range. That is a whole different class of tractor.

Your Bobcat 2025 is the equivalent to the 2610

So, he'd be at 21,300 or so with the Hoe (16,100 + 5,200). No MMM in that price? My guy said that was in the 3K range due to the drive over ability.

He ballparked 'another 12K or so' above what I paid for the 125 doing some sort of trade. I won't do it anyways, but I'm just curious.
