One last point to make about your post stevebig. You can tell by the early reaction to this thread that I'm not in the minority in my usage of the word "bashing". I really apreciate your post and your experience definitely did warrant your trading up. But for the most part most of the comments out here about LTs are burn em, kick em use em as christmas ornaments kind of posts. Very little to address the point that a person just spent more mile for mile on a thing that he uses 18 times a year than he spent on his car once you do the math. We'd just like a little more education about these things than as you experienced, more guilting folks into forking over that other $1400.

suburbansam fear not...
i am 250lbs and my 17cu cart hauled around 700lbs of stone and rocks without a problem before...

and just last weekend i was cutting trees, not big ,maybe 12 inches across and loading my cart level with the top and only heard alittle whining from the tranny..just a little

but the tranny WAS warm to touch but never got hot or quit or slowed down

matter of fact this is the sweetest little machine i've ever used...put my mothers yardman to shame and my father in laws murray to shame

her's is 1 season old..has 20hrs...and has had a tranny rebuild and belt replaced 2x's...paid $1000 at walmart for it(crap)
his runs so rough and the tranny is tough to get into gear and cuts like poop and paid $800 5yrs ago

i paid $1600 for my LT1042 at Tractor Supply..
use it twice at hard as my mom does and have not had a problem in 15hrs of service(thansk guys for the break in oil changing advice)...bought it alittle over a month ago(i've used it for everything)

i don't like to rush when i cut my grass...i like to see a clean even cut no gap cut everytime...

i clean my deck after each use by REMOVING IT...
not by using that gimmicky deckwash thing

i sharpen my blades after each use

and i rinse her down and dry her off with my leaf blower everytime

some of you may think taking 45-60 mins to cut just under an acre crazy... but i don't see the purpose in racing my tractor

my neighbor cuts his grass..same size..in less than 30mins and bounces all over the place

i was taught by my dad keep it slow and it'lll last for a very long time...tractor too..lol

he should know
he kept my grandfathers old blue ford lawn tractor(older than me and im 34) running with only 1 engine replacement ...changed the oil, maybe the tranny(not sure) but kept the speed at 1 all the time..slow going but never had an issue

so i keep the tradition alive with my LT1042...keep it slow...did my oil change a few service hrs ago and she's running strong

VERY VERY HAPPY...to get the same features in a JD would've had to pay $200 more and i couldn't see doing it when i didn't need to

my gripe is still...
MOVE THE CUPHOLDER!!...i still get grass in my soda when cutting....lol

still have not gotten my cover though... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Most things get overblown on the internet. All it takes is one or two LT's with a problem and it starts sounding like it's hundreds of them. I think the main thing here to remember is to take care of your tools and they will take care of you. I am very pleased with my 1046. Sure it doesn't have nearly the steel in it that my dad's 682 has. But I still expect that 1046 will last me 15 to 20 years because I will take care of it.

As to the cupholder problem, Cub could fix that by placing the fuel cap on the right side and moving the cupholder to the left side. Or you could just do what I do, put bottled drinks with caps on them in the cup holder.... no more grass clippings in your drink /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't see that there has been a lot of, "bashing," of the CC/LT line here, or too many problems blown out of proportion. This is like reality TV! I'm very glad forums like this exist for people to vent frustration, OR speak all the best of their machines because it all will boil down to one thing- future PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT. After all, this is REAL people running their actual machines, not some Consumer Reports generic product test or anything edited to make something look either bad or good- can it get any BETTER than this /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Funniest part??? When an internet forum is popular such as this one at TBN, people from the manufacturers actually read it! So, bad or good, be free to speak your mind /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
