Lubricate MFWD Steering King Pins (5M)

AKfish, You are correct that it is not in the manual as a proceedure, but look at the maint SCHEDULE in the manual. It is listed as a 50hr line item. That is where I got confused. With that said, do you remove the 4 bolts and plate over the top of the kingpins to get to a zerk?

Nope... but, you've got me curious, now. I'll check that plate and see if there's really a grease zerk in there!

I don't even see it in the manual under 50 hour service, this is what's listed in my manual for 50 hours:

- Check Coolant Level
- Check Transmission-Hydraulic System Oil Level
- Look for Oil Leak at MFWD
- Inspect Tires and Check Inflation Pressure
- Lubricate MFWD Front/Rear Axle Trunnion
- Lubricate Adjustable Front (2WD) Axle Steering Spindles and Cylinder Ends
- Lubricate Front Axle Pivot Point
- Lubricate Hitch Linkage and 3-Point Hitch Bushing
- Inspect Tractor for Loose Hardware

Nope... but, you've got me curious, now. I'll check that plate and see if there's really a grease zerk in there!

I've checked that whole area and see no grease zerk anywhere around there. The whole front end I've only found two zerks both on the front axle pivot point.

Look here OMSJ14575

Service Interval Chart, 7th item down. Do you have a plate on top of the axle at the wheel with 4 bolts holding it down and one just like it on the bottom?

Mine is different, is yours a 2012 or earlier? Cause mine is a 2013.

Mine is a 2013 - 5075M. The manual that came with it is issue Oct 2011 and appears the same as JD web site which I referenced. I have not found anything newer. I am more than happy not to have to grease them, but I found out quick on a Massey Ferguson what happens to front axles that don't get grease as the Zerk was hidden behind a loader mount and $900.00 later... Just making sure. BTW, the manuals are specific for the 5065M and 5075M separate from the 5085M and up.

Drawing from JDparts. Number 39 lube fitting. Shown in both top & bottom king pins. Also number 50 (shown two places) is a lube fitting.

This is not the first time I've saw JD recommend greasing an item and then not making it easy to do. Has anyone removed the king pin covers to see what's under there?? I would not be surprised if there's a zerk.....
