Did you get an outdoor rated LVL? They do sell them. If not, you can expect the glue to fall apart in short order. The non-rated ones just aren't meant to get wet more than incidentally during construction. If yours is not outdoor rated, then you can at least learn from the design and see what changes you might want to make for round two. Cheap experiment.

What stamp would it have if only indoor rated material?

I would expect all LVL to have exterior glue.

If you didn't ask for an exterior rated one, you almost certainly didn't get one. I would expect the opposite, Beenthere - LVLs are primarily used indoors. Outdoor rated ones are the exception. Available, but not standard.

I just bought a standard LVL. I had a scrap laying around outdoors for about 5 years and it was still pretty sound when I burned it. I'm more concerned with bending the angles than it rotting. I guess if I go with 3/8" angles it ought to be pretty rugged with 2 on each edge. I'll store it indoors during the off season. Maybe mount a vice to it. Trying to think of what it would be useful for as a horizontal work platform on the tractor too, other than mounting all my chainsaws on it and going down to the tax collector's office.... :licking:

I doubt it would rot quickly, but the glue will give out and it will start to delaminate. I've seen it happen, but that isn't to say it will be immediate. Worst case, it's a cheap experiment that helps you dial in the design. Can't beat the price.

Got some time in the shop today to put this together. It's pretty beefy. They wanted $6/hole so I spent the morning drilling, guess I made money.. Just have to get the chains set up and I can try it out.

Works good, eliminates all the dumping you have to do with a bucket. Now I just have to make an attachment to it so I can carry firewood...:D
Wings for it may be next.
