by "enclosed" you mean cab? boy, even so it seems high for the predecessor of current M models. 1st question i'd ask myself is if i have to have cab. if so, even then, i'd shop around 1st for other M models. ball's in your court!

When you say hydro, do you mean hydraulic shuttle?

Don't have to have a cab but sure would be nice when brush hogging and pushing Snow

Yes

No real tips on that model, but we really like the M Series, it is surprising how much more comfortable they are than the MX or GL. I really like my L5740HSTC, but the M Series is a lot more substantial and smoother riding machine. The hydraulic shuttle shift is in my opinion the next best thing to an HST for ease of operation and once you use the cab you will wonder why you waited.

I have a M6040 with hydraulic shuttle and no cab. I tried a cab and its just too hot & humid - perhaps air conditioning was not working correctly, perhaps too much glass. In any case I sure like the tractor. Its easy to operate, strong, quiet and easy to maneuver around thru the pine forrest.

In any case, $39K is top asking dollar. If you have your mind set on this unit I'd see if you can get the price down OR have the dealer throw in an added implement or two - rear cutter, rear blade.

What do you think the tractor should go for?
Im not sold on the cab part yet, I'm more wanting this size tractor

Well, lets see. My M6040 with FEL & bucket, hydraulic shuttle - no cab - cost, new in 2009 - - $32,995. It has 150 hours now and I would expect it to sell for $5K to $8K less. I'm no expert in this area - this is what I've seen used tractors, of unk condition - like mine selling for in this area. And believe me in the five years I've had my Kubota I've only seen two for sale - used. Seems that when I bought this Kubota in 2009 - the same tractor with a cab was around $8K additional. About half my hours annually are on the tractor in the winter - plowing my mile long driveway. And I sure don't do any work in the summer with the tractor that raises a lot of dust. So in my case a cab in not necessary.

there are a few other sources members may help you with too. you're smart to ask around like you are. the cab is a big decision i'm sure esp in your part of the country. will you trade in the mx too?

There have been several very active ones over the years, but I didn't book mark any.

another link. a few notes 1) to cab or not is a big one. if you started a new thread on that you'd get more than you want, kinda like the hst/gear wars. but you'd get a lot of feedback 2) the 50/60/7040 are all built on the same frame/wheel size (&engine) w/10 hp increments. the 7040 does have limited slip up front, a nice feature (i'm told) for fel & soil engagement implements. 3) the 8540 (as triple r will agree) is a different beast w/advantages (imho) too numerous to mention here. just a comparison note: i purchased my 8540 open station 12 sp 2xremotes new in 08 for 34k. KTAC insurance now rates it's value around 29k....so lots of options here for you...buying unseen i would not recommend, & you do have the advantage of dealership on the almost new 6040. but 39k is a lot no matter how you look at it. to me the cab decision would be the 1st hurdle. you do have the buyers adv. just don't feel pressured into a deal & best of luck

What big bubba said, people have some really strong preferences on the cab/no cab, some have owned/own both some don't. For some, it simply isn't an option for a variety of reasons. My ideal setup for many years was a combination of both. Now I have to wear a pollen mask even in a cab tractor and haven't used one of our open station tractors in two years or so except on a very limited basis.

Yes, there is a big difference between the 50, 60, 70 Series and the 85/95 Series; more people wish they had gone bigger than smaller though there are some. We kept a 70HP tractor for only a few weeks before trading it in on a 80HP.

Here are just couple of thread on the cab vs open station, there quite a few more: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kioti-buying-pricing/307145-cab-not-cab.html?highlight=cab

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/buying-pricing-comparisons/303257-cab-no-cab.html?highlight=cab

I had to add protection to my 5740 and will do the same to our M8540 after knocking a hole in it: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...53-brush-guard-cab-tractor.html?highlight=cab

Here is what im looking at. Should hear from dealer tomorrow about trade value and get more info on it. Any advice or things to ask? Not 100% sold on cab yet other than for snow removal.

A lot of cab or no cab boils down to what kind of wx you will experience at your location, how long do you expect to be out in that wx and what will you be doing. I spend all day in the summer out chipping small downed pine trees - a cab has no effect on chipping and chipping is a walk in the park compared to being out all day disking your land. When its hot here there is essentially zero humidity - a cab has no effect on this. Dry heat is not a problem. In the winter I can buy the very best cold wx gear for when I'm out on the tractor and not even come close to $1000 - a cab will run $8000.

Besides I enjoy being out in the fresh air and dislike immensely being cooped up - I also ride a Harley.

Primarily use is brush hogging commercially along with clean ups on properties and snow removal. Most of the time of I'm on a job site I don't have get off very often, bit if at home I'm on and off all the time
