I would love to buy a M7040. The only question I have is it appears to only have 8F/8R with hydro shuttle. Can I get more speeds? Like 16F/16R. I ask because I need many times to go less than 1 mph and with 8 only, that may not be an option.

I looked for the number of gears on the 8F/8R that are less than 1 mph and found no specifications.

I have always wanted to buy Orange, now I just need to some help.

Go to the Kubota website and build one. If I recall, the different transmission was an option - actually it is a "creep" speed option.

However, that may be only for the M8540 and M9540.

Update: the m7040 has 8/8, the M8540 and M9540 can be had with 12/12

Maybe others can fill in the gaps on information.

Our M8540 is not equipped with the creep speed option, but the manual indicates the "speed" in 1st to be .42 to .84 in 6th on the 12F/12R with corresponding speeds through 1-4 in the 8F/8R model. I would have to check the website to see if creep is available in the M7040.

Creep should only be used we doing one of the following:

1. Deep rotary tilling and harrowing.
2. Planting
3. Turf application.

As mentioned only a 8F/8R is offered in the M7040, but even with the 12F/12R in the M8540, the slowest ground speed is 1.6 MPH.

I need creep, from what you are describing.

I just check the Kubota built site and you can get the M7040 with the creep option. There are several M7040 owners on here who really like them.

on the creep: as 3xR mentions, the creep tranny is used only for specific applications, not a general utility use to replace low gearing in the tranny (ie use w/fel) if you feel the need for the 12 sp. (haying, fel, etc) look at the next model up, 8540. be sure of the application before thinking the creep tranny will fit your need. good luck!

Out of general interest, but probably not useful ;) :

In Europe the standard M6040/M7040 comes with 15F/15R (5 speed main gearbox, 3 speed range shift) while the M8540/M9540 comes with 36F/36R (6 speed main gearbox, 3 speed range shift, 2 speed hydraulic hi/lo).

Very interesting. So how do I get the European model?
