Magnetic lights?

<font color=blue>... I'd still suggest bringing back a dedicated wire for the power plug.</font color=blue>

So, get the power at the battery or starter motor, route it up into the ROPS and into the tail light (or wherever I decide to mount this thing?)

Fused near the battery or starter, and, say 18-guage wire? I can steal the ground anywhere off the frame, right?

Thanks for the tips, guys!

This whole discourse just goes to show to what lengths you boys will go to "Rub Goldburg" something... But also anyone who asks about "Petzel" lights really displays quite a general knowledge of the highter order of things...

The tire wouldn't wear out if you ran it against the PTO instead, and it would run fast enough to put out some serious light /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif ....

Jag:
I have two different Petzels. The mini one goes in the pack as emergency use or for reading along with a bunch of AA batteries. The other one, 6volt model, is used on my climbing helmet for all kinds of things. I've got it set up so I can run it off a bigger 6 volt rechargable lead acid battery that fits a water bottle holder on my belt or backpack or I can switch bulbs and run it off the regular 6 volt lithium battery.

Have you considered running ordinary blue covered plug in cord back for your lights. Its already covered and protected plus you could run two circuits off it with bare copper wire acting as ground for both.

Might be able to use <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.carparts.com/parts/newsearch2.asp?reflink=0-0-0-0-0&sourceid=2&parttypeid=&itemid=9374&autoidsearch=NO>one of these</A> as a weatherproof connection.

I've used the flat trailer type connectors for power distrubution, you find them in most automotive stores, available in single, two and four circuits. Just use the appropriate male and female and make sure to use the exposed end for ground.

You mean like a normal 120V A/C extension cord? Just snip the ends off, and have three conductors to use? Sounds like it might be an easy way to do it. Thanks for the idea...

I just got an American Van catalog in the mail. Their website is www.americanvan.com. They have a light called a "Golight" that has a suction mount or an optional magnetic mount and is 400,000 candlepower. These lights have either wired or wireless remote control and have a 360 degree horizonal sweep and a 70 degree vertical sweep. They also ain't cheap! They come with a lighter plug and they have an amber lens cover for them. Looking at the ad again I see that they are removeable for handheld use. They might be the way to go if you don't mind getting off of some change.
