Mahindra 1526 Vs Kubota L2501

Re: Mahendra 1526 Vs Kubota L2501

My neighbor just bought a L2501 HST. When the growing season kicks in I'm planning on borrowing it to test it out with my 5ft bush hog to see how it handles mowing thick grass.

Considering that I've been mowing my fields with a 1952 Ford 8N with a 5ft bush hog for years now, and it does OK, I'm thinking the L2501 will handle it just fine.

It's not simply a factor of PTO horsepower, it's how effectively you can manage the horsepower with the transmission. The L2501HST allows you infinitely variable speed. With the 8N, you can't slow down enough due to the geared transmission, so occasionally in very thick grass it can stall out if you don't step on the clutch. With HST, you just slow down and let the bush hog chew up the grass then keep on mowing.
8N's aren't exactly know for their slow low gear.
Can't run a rototiller very well either. Geared to fast.

Re: Mahendra 1526 Vs Kubota L25

Smart to not get hung up on loader specs. My Kubotas both lift more than their rated amounts but the pucker factor in lifting anywhere near rated load is enough to keep me at 50 to 75% rating (regardless of brand). Up high a heavy load is very dangerous, particularly if you have slopes on your property.

I can not speak to the Mahindra, nor could I say anything bad about them, but I have looked at the L2501 and it is a sweet machine.

That is one of the few reasons I am leaning toward Mahindra. It is a heavier machine than the similar Kubota. JD models with the cast aluminum rear are out. Kioti dealer just started a few months back. Mahindra and Kubota have been in local area for many years. Kubota dealer seems to want to deal more with municipalities and construction companies as opposed to homeowners.

Not always true. If you are looking at a Mahindra 1526 and a Kubota L2501, the tractors being discussed here, the Kubota is a slightly heavier machine.

You are correct. The kubota L2501 HST is 2,623 lbs and the Mahindra 1526 HST is 2,459 lbs. Had this on my comparison chart but failed to consult it before posting. Thanks,

The Mahindra 2538 is 3,130 lbs and the L3901 is 2,778 lbs. 352 lb difference (12%). Don't know if that is a big deal or not.

Re: Mahendra 1526 Vs Kubota L25

Sorry I did not read this entire post, but neither machine cans safely lift and stack large square bales, especially 3 high. i have a Max28. It weights 3,200Lbs with a #750 lbs of counter weight, and has it's hydraulic pressure set about 100-150 lbs over the high side rated pressure and also retrofitted curl cylinders from a 1526 loader.
My bigger tractor was out of commission for awhile last year and I had to handle 750-800 Lb square bales with the Max28 using bucket forks. I was lucky to be on flat ground and stacked the hay bales just two high. My neighbor's L3901 was nit much better even with its extra lift height and size. i suggest you get the next larger frame tractor. Consider getting an older L35 Kubota with BH or an L4400. They last forever.

Is the 3200# with ballast in the wheels? Otherwise, I think you're more like 2500# (per current Max26XL spec sheet). And bucket forks would detract from the lift capacity, right? (In other words, wouldn't you have been better off with a set of forks or spears?)

The 1526 would have ~700# weight advantage, plus the extra 150# capacity (rated at 2" higher than the MaxXL).

Not saying the 1526 can or can't stack the bales safely, but not sure if comparing it to a MAX can determine whether the 1526 can or can't.

I couldn't agree with you more.

If you are wanting to stack 900lb large square bales three high safely you should be in a 40 - 60HP CUT at least. I use a JD 770 to move 700lb round bales and it is not the safest thing in the world. My buddy has to stack them three high with a JD 4044 since my 770 cannot stack them three high. I am buying a Yanmar YT347 because I almost flipped my 770 putting a round bale in the hay feeder this winter. My life is not worth 27k IMHO. Most farms in my area stack large square bales with a skid loader.

I have a kubota l3800 and stack large square bales 3x3x7 700lbs 3 high

I brought a 900 lb. 3x3x8 bale to the Kubota dealer. We used the L2501 w/pallet forks and lifted the bale to 84". Loader relief stopped there. We had a 5' hog on for ballast. Back end did lighten up but was still firm on the ground. That was enough height to stack 3 with room to spare. It didn't appear unsafe to me. I plan to do the same test with the Mahindra 1626 when it arrives at dealer. Then I need to decide.

Also, both of the new Kubota's I have owned came with under-spec'd hydraulic pressure relief valves. My lift capacities increased significantly after I adjusted them to spec (or a little over ;) ).

I have learned from TBN that this is common on Kubota's.
