Mahindra 2565 PTO temp concerns

Ideas needed. I have a 65hp Mahndria. I think it is the largest they make. Has almost 800 hours. Ran my mower/conditioner in the hay field for about three hours. I figured that I should put the rotary rake on it as I would be needing it the next day. Problem was the PTO shaft was so hot I could not touch it. Dis not seem right. Oil in rear end full and not in any way discolored. Dealer suggested an experiment. Got a contact less temperature gauge. Team at start of work 66. Ran the rake at 1700 rpm for 90 minutes. PTO shaft temp. was 175. Could this be normal? My 65hp Kubota never gets hot even after several hours of hard brush hog work or running the small square baler. I am concerned. Should I be?

Warm but not too hot to touch. The PTO shaft was too hot to touch with a bare hand.

What is the condition of the universal joint? Has it been greased and is it moving freely? Is the pto shaft on the tractor getting hot without anything attached to it?

175 will burn skin.
My water heater is at 125, hot as I can stand.

Does anything else with a PTO get that hot when used?

No. It should not be getting that hot.
Check for bent pto shaft.
Greased joints. Hydraulic oil temp at fill hole.
If there is a delay in engagement of pto or slow to getup to speed, that is indicative of worn pto clutch which can also cause that kind of heat.
Let everything cool down first.
The next day, check for above suggestions.
As a side note, l have seen 140 temps at the pto under hard use. Swift turns and related side pressures help to build that kind of heat as well.

U joints are free and well cared for. No problem with heat on my Kubota

Have not run PTO without an attachment. But I will run the experment.
