When tilling the garden my PTO would randomly stop I didn’t hit anything and the garden has been tilled many times over the years. If I push the clutch in it would start back up again. It’s never done this in all the years I’ve had the tractor

Are you sure it is the PTO vs a clutch on the tiller. My tiller clutches out sometimes underload (hitting a big rock or large root).

PTO quiting, to me that would be split the tractor and repair.???

If the tiller has an over running clutch on it, it's possibly slipping or the plates are shot and need replaced.

It’s definitely the pto on the tractor that stopped. If I push the clutch in and let it out it restarts. I have some tilling to do this weekend so I will check again. I also adjusted the slip clutch on the tiller and verified that is working

That’s what I’m afraid of going to call a dealer Monday to see what it will cost to fix

Ok can anyone tell me if using it with the pto stop working occasionally am i doing any damage using the tractor? I can’t get the tractor in anywhere for at least a month. I need to get the garden in. I’m trying to find a service manual and may attempt the repair myself

your prolly putting a ton of clutch material in the hydro fluid at a minimum, or metal if the clutch is gone.

If this is a mechanical clutch Have you verified the free play adjustment on the tractor clutch pedal?

If mechanical it is probably a dry clutch and would not contaminate the HST system.
