Or that your fan belt is loose and slipping?

Unclebuck,
I think that it is a design problem, I have used the Mahindra 5500, I have used a JD 20 series and I have used a Case cx series in the same conditions on the same location and have not had to stop in the middle of the work and wash out the radiator. I too have sought advice from this forum and even posted things that seemed to work for me temporarily (feel free to search the Mahindra forum for my posts on this problem) With the radiator and air filter blocking the radiator and the muffler mounted on top of the motor I believe that it is indeed a design problem.
Where as you are able to clean your fins twice a year and get satisfactory results, I have to clean mine 6-7 times a day with either an air compressor or a 2450 psi pressure washer. Aggravating as #$@^, to say the least.
I don't believe that we can fairly compare mine to yours as the climate in south MS and Central New York are not comparable. I would definitely own another Mahindra, just not a 10 series.

I don't know what your climate is . Up here I have mowed with temps in the 90's. Here are a few other things that have helped me when it is that hot.
1) In the past,I would cut without the bucket, now I leave it on and set about 18 inches high so it knocks down the grass and seed before it reaches the hood
2) when it is 90+ I will remove the engine side panels, and run without them, I have done it once this year in 96 and humid weather
3) when it is 90+ I will drop my engine rpm's from 2600, I'll run 23-2400 rpm's
It may seem like minor fixes, and individually they are minor, but taken together plus the addition of that extra screen and the periodic cleaning of the radiator fins it has kept me running in the 60% range on the temp gauge when cutting my fields.
How is your temp when not cutting ? My temp is normal with anything else I have done with this tractor, just the cutting of grass raises it on my 4110.

UncleBuck,
I run mine wothout the side panels 90 percent of the time and have tried cutting with and without the loader both with the same results. I have not tried lowering the rpm's though, I have just set it where the 540 rpm dot is on the tach. Also, mowing discing and loader work all seem to run the temp up.

I am in no way trying to insinuate a lack of maintenance, because I can tell you are trying to solve this problem, but it sounds like to me while you THINK the radiator is cleaned out.... it is really still PACKED with debris. I have run into this before on other equipment...

I agree, I have seen a couple of tractors in the shop for over heating and the only solution was to remove the radiator and give it a very thorough pressure washing on the floor. The customers insisted there was some other problem causing it, but I could not find it and there have been no problems since. It could be that the first couple of times it got plugged it was packed in so hard that you weren't able to clean it all out. Give that a try.

When I am cutting with my 2810 HST the temp will never go up above normal ( even when it is a 90 degree day ... ) As long as I keep the radiator cleaned out ....

That didn't used to be the case.........

I would backwash the radiator till the cows came home , and it still ran hot.....I finally took the sceen out in front of the radiator.

Problem gone.....

I never put the screen back in..........

Thanks for relating that experience. It has not occurred to me to do that, but Im going to try it. My 7520 rises above the mid scale control point during hard work and I think if sustained it would overheat. I think the cooling system is marginal as supplied. Removing the screen should help.

As far as a brand problem, i can only say that my JD 2010 only starts to heat under hard work when the outer [grill] screen gets significantly plugged. Shut the engine down. The stuff falls off. Go back to work. Iv never cleaned the radiator fins. Good design is not complex, as they knew back in 1962. Today it is more rare.

Larry, my 7520 overheated this past summer,:(( off & on for hours) working very hard in 110 degree heat. Lesson learned though, don't work in 110 degree heat.:D

Hi all

As I read the posts I am watching Mash on tv. The doctors are wearing these masks that catch the germs. I get this picture of a giant doctors mask made for the front of the 4110; attached using a giant rubber band streached to the instrument panel. Of course, since the 4110 has nothing to do with operating on people, we might be better off using a giant paint mask. Better for filtering weeds.

As mentioned earlier, I solve my problem by cutting more often. Beats one of the other solutions offered; "cut in reverse."

Cheers

Used my 4110 for three hours yesterday and worked it harder than I have probably ever worked it and the temp never got above halfway. I think I may have solved my overheating problem, if I can just get Mother Nature to keep it in the 60's year round.
