That sounds like a great idea! Let's start with mine in a few weeks! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

What size of tractor did you run the baler with, and what model of baler was that? What was your experience with the tractor handling that baler?

I hated putting up hay as a kid, but now that I have my own small acreage it doesn't seem so bad...

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Don't hog all the help!!! Anytime John wants to stop by our place I'll give him a nice air conditioned cab to bale hay in. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ron:

Believe it or not, your 2910 would run the rotary rake. No trouble. It would probably run the NH square bailer too. The flywheel provides the inertia. I doubt whether it could pull the bailer and a loaded wagon though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Randy:

You are new here so let me just say I don't want to get into a long discourse about tractors, bailers, pto power and all that.

This is what I use. Remember, me and no one else. I run my rounder and all the other implements with a Kubota 5030 HSTC.

You can run a square bailer with a medium CUT. The rake with a lawn tractor. The mower-conditioner weighs a lot so it takes a sizeable tractor to handle it and the rounder takes all the power the 5030 has.

Running implements is not dependent on the size of the tractor, it's all about whether YOU are comfortable RUNNING the implement.

John Day just brought his NH for kicks and giggles.

Richard:

John raked one of our fields a few weeks ago using the 5030, with the AC on of course. That is what led up to him bringing his TC out to play.

He'd probably come out, but you'd have to pay his airfare. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you get your applicators on?? If you look over the 5030, you can see a preservative tank on the rounder.

I'll have to post some pictures of mine. I just happened to buy 50 gallons of 30+. Need some??

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Yes I did get my preservative system on. Luckily I haven't had to use it again. Figures. I too had to buy a 50 gallon drum of it. It came in 30 gallon drums but it was only another $100 for the 50 gallons.

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

I was just curious about the size of the NH in the picture. I am very comfortable on a tractor with any implement. I grew up on a large row crop farm and have thousands of hours of experience on a tractor. BTW, my brother is haying mine with his large equipment, and I'm just watching. He mowed my 10 acres in 40 minutes tonight with a JD 7700 and a 12 foot disc mower conditioner. I thought it did such a pretty job, I attached a picture (I took the picture from my back deck). He teases me about my little JD 790 and the fact that its rear tires aren't near as big as the front tires on his tractor!

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Daryl I have no personal experience making hay but I enjoyed following your thread as well as the action shots. I now appreciate some of the work involved with all the steps that get it to the barn.

I also feel a lot better watching you guys doing all the hard work. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
