So just finished fencing in the field behind our barn. Over the past 11 years since we built the barn, we have seen every year, black bears using the field to eat and also go from our creek on the East side of our property to a creek that is to the West on the neighbors 200 acres. So to try and give them an easy way around the fence, rather than through it, I have roughed out a road with the tractor that they can use. Time will tell if it works, sure hate to see the new fence squashed by a black bear. Think it was 3 years ago we saw bears back there about 20-25 times during the year, never mind how many when we weren't looking.
British Columbia has the largest Black Bear population in North America and Vancouver Island has the densest population of bears in the entire province.
OPPS that's where I live.
