Brian,
I don't have anything to add with regards to your dilemma I was just wondering where in MI you live?

What about raising only one bay of the barn, say one end bay where you could put the hoist and the motor home. If you do it I'd raise it by at least 8 feet.

As a FWIW.....I once saw a garage that was perched at the top of a 5 foot (?) hill. The guy dug out the land at the door area about two feet and had longer doors put in. It solved his problem with ceiling height.

If you have enough rise in the land....and dont need much more height....this could be a cheaper solution. Allthough I would have trouble with an "offset" floor like that....sooner or later I'd go over the edge with a creeper....:eek:lol.
