Nice pictures. You are very fortunate to have opportunities like this. All we ever see is deer, poor us. I'll never go back to the city life!!

Kuby, nice Kitty pictures, do you know how much he weighed?

Nixon, yep the big cats can make you re-think real quick about are you at the top of the food chain or not. A few years back while hunting we had a real light fresh dusting of snow just before light. I came across some fresh doe tracks and just started to take a relaxing walk in the woods. About a half mile later I came across a big red spot in the snow as I crested a little birm. My fun relaxing walk was over.

Another time I was out scouting for deer/elk and I kept looking over my shoulder, something just did not seem right. I had my feet over the edge of a logging road so just my torso up was visible to the small hill behind me. I was spotting the big area the opposite direction. I just could not keep still something was not right. I got up and walked a few feet and saw fresh cougar prints in some sand, then I heard a growl/hiss thing way worse and bigger than my house cat has ever done. I pulled out the pistol and slowly backed away. I went back got in the truck and let the cat have his/her mountain.

One thing dad taught me many years ago was ... don't mess with bears. They don't want to mess with you and if they do, they are bleeping hard to kill. More than one hunter has been killed by a bear after emptying their mag into them.

An old hunting budy of his told me a story.. He said.

"If you are ever walking through the forest and see a big old grizzley standing in front of you, don't worry. Just stare that old bear straight in the eye. Never break eye contact. Take a big old step right towards him. Odds are that bear will take a step towards you. Take two steps towards that bear and odds are he will take two steps towards you. Keep this up until you are face to face with that old bear, until you and him are exchanging bad breath. Then, reach behind you and grab a big hand full of crap, smash it in his face and run like heck. Don't worry about the crap... it will be there".

Anyway, bad jokes aside, wild animals are the least of my concerns. Live and let live for the most part. Lost a half dozen chickens to neighbors dogs who kill them for sport. We get stunk out several times a week from skunks that were spooked by ... you got it ... neighbors dogs. No, wild animals and I get along fine. It is the supposedly domesticated ones that I have issues with.

Sounds like your neighbors need to control their dogs better. I think I would have to call the pound or animal control for a little wake up call to the neighbor. If that does not work, a dead chicken on the doorstep with a bill for damages might be in line.

I would love to see bears etc on my place. We used to get deer all the time but someone built a house in the woods behind us and they have caused the deer to not come around. I am thinking of putting salt blocks out this year.

If you value your landscape, shrubs, and flowers, you will not put out salt blocks or anything else to attract them. I only wish that there was a way to keep them from attacking everything that I plant. They have become so brazen that the dog doesn't even faze them any longer.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I understand your point Junkman, truth is they are welcome on my back patio, and I will feed them right there if they would come around again. We used to be able to be cutting the field and have them just jumping around like nothing in the world was troubling them. Momma's and babies alike would be within 10 feet of us. Of course the chestnuts were more than likely the reason, but hey they were fun.

Lots of salt will be laid to rest, and I dont have to shovel it this year, one scoop of the bh and done.........

thinking of some clover in the back also, and lots and lots of corn cobs to throw out and see what happens.
