I thought it sounded good to. The ROW companies that do it now have to mow it one way then mow the other way put the tire tracks with a lead tractor dragging a chain to raise the walked down stuff back up so it can be mowed. still looks bad when they get done. Im wanting to get an old 518 thunr around skidder/Feller bunchers conversion and put a mower on it. Id have gear drive if I wanted to rake and the bumper on them is the old skidder blade moun with solid cylinders. I want this so I could put on the orriginal cylinders and use this as a rear rake mount with a winch. Ive seen a similar set up that worked nicely.
I know a family that does right of way work thats all the grubbing and they have a 518 Cat skidder mad into an ADT. Looks factory lots of skidders with rakes. and such.

Well, with all the rain we have been having up here in the northeast, I figured it's about time I caught up on everything that has happened since I last posted in June last year :confused2:

This set of pics is from a ROW in northern MA early last summer. I was going before the side trimming crew and making roads in through the brush and after they were done, I mulched all the debris that was dropped.

This next set was from a week long response to clearing out a fire road that was completely blocked due to blown down trees.

After we finished clearing out the fire road, we moved about a mile away to start clearing around tower bases in preparation for line crews to come in and work on the towers and lines.

Andrew, I was looking through the "land clearing fourm" just yesterday reading about some mulchers and the thought accured to me and was wondering what happened to you. I saw this thread when you first started it and was wondering if you were still in the business. Thanks for the latest pic posts. I always like seeing the before and after shots.

Andrew, it seems you have a great business and you do excellent work. Those ROWs sure llook pretty when you finish. Above all else, please be careful when working out there. It just seems to me that there are so many things you have to watch at once that you need eyes in the front, back, and sides of your head. You somehow pull it off and seem to enjoy it as well. How's the Bobcat holding up?

Thanks guys. Yup, I'm still alive and kickin' Running around like crazy, so I've neglected my posting here for awhile. Sorry about that :ashamed:

Jinman- The Bobcat is running great! I have 837 hrs on it and the only two problems I've had (and that were fixed quickly with little lost time), were wiring related. For the type of work this machine does, I'd say that is a pretty good track record.

This set of pics is from a private project I did last year. The homeowners wanted to clear woody areas to make some additional room for their horses.

Please keep in mind that I was only hired to clear the trees and underbrush. Even though I prefer to do the stumping and grading myself, the homeowner had another friend who was coming in after me to complete that part of the project. Don't hold the shredded stumps against me- that's the way I was told to leave them.

Hi AR,

In the long run what you are doing is very economical for the power company. After you clear a power line, I would think the power company could contract with someone...in about 3 months...to spray Roundup down the ROW's. Have you thought about expanding your operation a little and adding an option with a tank and boom for spraying? You could get a contract to come back a couple times a year to spray...
