Marfa Tx

Watched a 60 minutes story about Marfa Tx. yesterday and found it to be very interesting. Marfa is a small town miles away from anything. I've been through Texes a few times on my way to San Diego and back. After watching the 60 minutes story, I am having a interest in visiting Marfa Tx for a visit. Anyone familar with Marfa?

My recommendation is that you visit Marfa in the winter. I also can recommend Big Bend National Park in the winter. You won't catch me there in the summmer. Fort (Jefferson) Davis and the McDonald Observatory are also very interesting.

When going east or west across the south west I always take US90 thru Marfa rather than I-10. It is just as fast and a lot more to see.

Marfa has the lights. Is that what was on the program you were watching?

Been to Marfa many times. And the locals there swear by the lights. I personally have not seen them. I do believe that they're seeing 'something', but I have no idea as to what it is. I know you can see car headlights for 30 miles out there though.

But what I did see was an unpublished small air base near Sanderson stuck down between a couple of mountains. Now - I'm not saying that there's any connection, but I find it strange that I've never seen anything published about that little air base. And, of course, there's a very large USAF base near Del Rio - just a couple minutes flight for those there in-training.

Fun to just fantasize though... ghosts, paranormal images, Marfa lights... Who the heck knows! It 'could' be all real.

Saw that same 60 minutes segment. Looks like an interesting little town. I also saw a segment on a PBS show called The Day Tripper about Fort Davis. Maybe I should take a few days off and head west for a spell.

The Marfa Lights have been around for decades! Who knows? They may have been around for a century, or more!

The last time we were in that area was February, 1990, but we just passed through on I-90 westbound from Van Horn, TX, to Marathon, then down to Big Bend for a few days.

My father died in Marfa a few years back, was doing some work there.

My dad was down in that area, Fort DA Russel, for training during WWII. I think Marfa was the only "town" around there. He wasn't impressed with Texas at all. Of course, the Army isn't known for luxury areas, especially during WWII. Eventually they worked their way through Florida, practicing amphibious landings, often in the swamps. He wasn't impressed with Florida either. The training eventually culminated at Normandy.
