Massey 1758 Hyro Transmission Oil Issues

/ Massey 1758 Hyro Transmission Oil Issues #41
I want to post a shout out and thank you to stormcom for his help in trying to resolve my hydro (loss of reverse) issue on MF1754. He has provided me with information on coil pack issues regarding the reserve problem that I am experiencing with my tractor. I have contacted both of my dealers and passed along the information. They are researching and will advise me. I also passed along stormcom's information concerning remote valves. I will update this thread as we go forward. Thanks again stormcom for your help.

get your valves changed. once the warranty is up, you cannot get it changed under warranty. it is wintertime and the tractor is stored in the garage (like the fact it will fit under a standard garage door). Have a new valve on order and as I have not heard, it is probably backordered.

Another important item. Depending on when yours was built, the quick couplers for the front end loader are defective and restrictive. It will also mess with the oil. They are British thread so you may not run down to Tractor Supply and get the couplers. They changed min on my first tractor and had the problem on the second tractor also. Sure is a lot of little things to be concerned about. But, I still love the tractor. I am disabled and have to walk with a cane but I can get in it comfortably.

Will write you as soon as the valve comes in.

Well updated from last year. Overheat is still there. 650.00 and a 50 hr. service, I was told it was fixed. Well folks, it is not. Nobody can give me an answer. My rep retired and now mum is the word.

Remote valve is disconnected so I can rule that out. I was cutting my yard with 3 to 6 in. tall grass and the trans oil is broken down is under 6 hrs. Temp outside is 85 deg. The soot light comes on and after a few minutes goes off. Run it a little bit and the light is back on. Massey has put as many hours on this as I have.

I really need some help folks. 20180429_134840.jpg20180429_134840.jpg20180429_134840.jpg

I'm equally sorry, must be really frustrating and aggravating.
When does Lemon Law come in?
Can they get approval to give you a new tractor?

Frustrating does not come close to how I feel. Went to trade it in on another brand of tractor would not take it in trade. Long time Massey dealer said for me to dump it somewhere. He talked to a Massey dealer in South Texas who said they are having issues and as a wholesaler, "don't want it". I was in shock. A 60 hour tractor that is worthless!!! Also, was told no lemon law on tractors.

Will keep you informed.

Rep is to look at tractor next week.

I'm a little confused as to what fluid is overheating, but assuming it's the hydraulic oil, can you put an oil cooler in front of the radiator?

Can you tee a pressure gauge into the line from the pump to see how much pressure it's making when not moving any valves? Seems like something must be restricting the flow to make all that heat.

Sorry if this has all been suggested before.

Well I have some good news. 2 people from Massey came and spread the magic pixie dust and so far no overheat. The hydraulics work great (first time). It squeals a smidge when you first take off in high gear. It also appears there were corners cut on the 50 hr. service. So I am going to change all the fluids myself ( I will have the oil butler do it as I am disabled).

I think I want to go full synthetic all the way thru. I am looking at the Chevron 1000 THF and rotella synthetic 15w40 because I am in Texas.

Just an FYI. You need to wash every part under the hood and not trust the dealer to do it. There are 2 screens and it is extremely important to keep them clean. It was in multiple times to the dealership and the 2nd screen was not checked.

I would like to know what you people think about the Chevron full synthetic. I can't believe Massey does not make a full synthetic trans hyd. oil.

Sorry Kioti but for now if the Massey keeps running like it is now, I will keep it.

Now that's really good news. I'll remember the issue with screens if I ever have an issue with my small Massey hydro.
Unfortunate your dealer's mechanic could not catch this in the beginning. If it were me I would certainly wonder at this point
how well trained that tech was. Or anyone there I guess after all the trips you've made. This wasn't a weird electronics issue or something hard to diagnose.
First thing you do is check for proper hydraulics flow. Bottom line seems to be lack of knowledge. I think your dealer owes you a free oil change or two. Really.
Massey sent two qualified mechanics and they found the problem. Underline qualified...

I deal with a smaller local dealership and have the same problems with new techs and a lot of employee turnover. Job market is so tight right now techs are hopping from
one dealer to another for a better deal. My local Kubota dealer can't seem to keep their help.

Rotella T5 or T6 motor oil should run great in your tractor. I'm putting T5 into my Kubota today. Interesting that Kubota still will not sell a rebranded synthetic
motor oil. So I chose the T5 synthetic blend instead of full synthetic which I run in just about all my motors, over 20 of them. Can't help you on trans oil, lot of
label reading needed. I do know that Kubota has two grades of hydraulic oil and the "Super" more expensive stuff is apparently well worth using. You would think they would use
the better stuff from the beginning...but availability in third world markets may be an issue. Massey I think has just one hydraulic oil for your tractor. Sure you don't want to put oem
back in a new unit under warranty? Might not want to add a new variable in case you have more problems later.
