GC2300
Purchased a non running 2008 GC2300. Replaced starter, battery, ground strap and bottom radiator hose that had hole from throttle cable rub. Turns over but will not start even after bleeding air from lines. Low compression on two cylinders, 500, 150 in center and 350. My guess head gasket from over heating due to lower radiator hose issue. Soaking rings now to see if compression comes up. Anyone pulled a engine from this machine? Any advise is appreciated. Should also mention it has 870 hours. Anyone know of a good rebuild kit?

No engines have been replaced by forum members AFAIK. Good chance it is the head gasket. Aftermarket gaskets are pretty cheap on Ebay. All the GCs use the same engine, and several other tractors as well. Double check on Agco Parts Book to ensure you order correctly (it has pictures of all gaskets).

Thanks for your reply, I will pull the head this weekend and inspect everything, Hopefully it is just the head gasket.

Pulled the head, bad head gasket. All bores and pistons look good. Looked like I can just get the head resurfaced and change gasket. Where is the best place to get a gasket set for this engine?

There is a significant difference in price between OEM and non-OEM. Your call.

do you feel there is a big quality difference between OEM and aftermarket? Who makes a quality aftermarket head gasket?

The way I look at it, you purchased a non-running tractor. Spend the least amount of money to get it running, then you can find all the flaws. I buy OEM oil and hydraulic filters, the best hydraulic fluid I can find, everything else is the cheapest available part. Your location will determine what you have available. The basic engine has been around for 40+ years, any aftermarket parts should be able to meet or exceed the quality of parts the tractor was built with.

Those engines are pretty much bullet proof so I don’t think there are many forum members with engine repair experience. If it were my tractor I would spend the money and go with the OEM gasket. Aftermarket parts in general can be great or not so great, there is some risk involved.

I will strip the head this week and send it out for resurfacing just to be safe and check OEM pricing on head gasket. It might be more expensive but I would prefer to do this right the first time.

I had the head resurfaced and now need to regrind the valves and seats. Does anyone have a service manual on the E3112 engine and can tell me the correct valve seat angle?
