This tread started about high medical costs, not about health insurance. Two different topics thats getting intertwined.
But since insurance costs has been brought in,
If medical costs werent outrageous, we wouldnt need insurance, or insurance would be much cheaper.
Also, health insurance should be available from anyone, just like car insurance. Shouldnt be tied to an employer.
The biggest obstacle is pre existing conditions. I cant get car insurance on a wrecked car and expect them to make it new, but we expect it wirh our health.
Health Care is arguably the most regulated consumer sector... multiple layers from all sides.
I have only been directly involved since 1991 but the increase in regulations spanning my tenure is enormous... and almost without exception increase the expense.
If providing Health Care was as profitable as many think we would not one hospital after another closing... not just isolated but Nationwide.
What I have also learned is the "Government" often does not hold itself the standards it imposes on the private sector...
Yet... with all this said many pay nothing for the finest care bar none...
I've posted before from my property management days where I had a 31 year old tenant and her 15 year old daughter who gave birth to a son with severe heart problems... this child received over a million dollars in care over 10 years with much at Stanford... the child is now in his 20's and doing great.... the family never paid one penny for care... including extended stays at no charge care of Ronald McDonald House...
It is not that Americans are not getting care...
