Mesquite Removal with a root plow question (San Antonio, TX Area)

I found that it is very important to spray stumps almost immediately after cutting to get a good kill.
Soak the entire stump paying attention to getting plenty of chemical around the bark edge.

Thanks, I think that is what I do wrong, I usually don't get the spray till several months later.

Have you ever tried just painting full strength 2,4-D on the cut stumps?

I've never tried 2,4,D. Have you? I've heard you have to be really careful about it getting into run off water.

Remedy / Diesel at 25%\75% works well if applied to cut stump right after cutting.

I use 2,4-D and dicamba quite a bit for broadleaf weed control. I don't think it's labeled for Mesquite though, and I would be doubtful about it's effectiveness since it really doesn't do much to non-broadleaf plants. That said, it does put the hurt on bramble (wild blackberry) bushes so if you catch the mesquite early enough, it might work.

I think I'd stick with the Remedy/diesel mix that's labeled for mesquite control though.

The 2,4D is a lot cheaper than Remedy. It's killed everything I have applied it to. Never used it on mesquite is why I was asking if it works on it. I have killed chinese tallow with it, china berry, . Just paint it undiluted on the fresh cut stump.

Chinese Tallow is a broad leaf, though. I wouldn't classify mesquite as a broad leaf.
