I'd say you are in the huge minority. Most members log-in and select the Remember me on each visit. option -- thus they are always logged in when they visit TBN

I do have that option set. However, I delete all cookies daily and sometimes during the day, so it's necessary for me to login again. I delete cookies to avoid viruses; doing so - along with using Netscape's email and avoiding Outlook - has protected me from viruses, worms, etc.

I could be wrong, but don't you also get an email telling you that a P.M. has been sent to you as well as the blinking envelope?

Agreeing with Pete, this board is one of the MOST courteous I've visited. ANY board will often tell a newbie to do a search before asking a question that has been discussed to death on that board.
Doing that search will also help you make a more informed and direct question.

I have seen this same thing occur on Internet Message Boards. Actually, they are where trolls and self-appointed moderators are most common.

As far as posting short replies, maybe some people are "stat hounds", but I think most are just communicating amongst cohorts.

Dave,

Unless it's something of which I opted out, I don't believe so. I get a lot of PM's here and never have seen an email telling me about one.

I've never received a email notifying me of a PM.

I have the eMail notification set and I get the notification intermittently. I wonder if the other party has to have it set as well ? And where is this flashing envelope ??? Pet peeves. hmmm, Time limits on editing or deleteing a post. Life in general : Those who mistake kindness for weakness. Dave

Responses to messages like, "Nice picture", "Good story", "LOL", etc. There is really no need to post just to show that you read a thread. Sometimes I think people are just trying to increase their Total Posts number any way possible.

I think this is all part of what makes TBN so great. We're not here, most of us anyway, just for information. It's a community of alot of friends for the most part. People stay here and keep checking in to see what's going on, how people are doing, what projects are going on etc. In real life if one of your friends shows you a picture of something they're proud of you don't just look at the picture and walk away. You say nice picture, that's neat, that's pretty funny, etc. I don't see anything wrong with extending the same courtesies here. You know when you got your new skidsteer you posted pictures. Should we all have just said if we want to see pics of your skidsteer we'll go to the dealer site? You posted the pics because you were proud of your new machine and wanted to show it to the guys. When guys said nice machine, etc. did that offend you? It's part of what makes friends and makes this a fun and interesting place to be.

I also have the notification set, and as far as I can tell, I've received a notification for every private message I've ever received. Of course, I only receive the notifications at my home computer, since that's the e-mail address I've specified, even though I may have sent the message from my office computer.

Thats because all those clubs are pullin in your recption better. Kinda like 11 rabbit ears /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I agree with Doc, Its nice to make friends and enjoy the conversation. I have on occasion seen on other boards those who will just try to rack up their stance but they usually go pretty fast. What good would tractors be with out a few friends/ debates/ laughs etc. Dave

Hmmm. Never thought of that. I should hook them up to my office radio. The only station I can get on it is our podunk little local station, which I absolutely hate listening to.

I agree 100%. Where else can total strangers become friends to the point of inviting each other to their homes or activities, without actually having met each other? It's pretty amazing when you think about it.

And how many times have we seen someone put out a post asking about another member that hasn't been heard from for awhile? It really makes me feel good to know that there really are a lot of nice, caring people out there. And I think they're all on TBN! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
