metal piece came out of oil pan when changing oil

thats what I think .I wont use that stuff .The tractor originally would increase rpm before I parked it .the tapping noise could have been the balls . the tapping wasn't audible at low rpm.Im no mechanic but I,ll attempt to do a basic restore on this . REAR MAIN SEAL IS GONE . Cleaned out the hole under the clutch assembly and 1 quart of oil drained out. first Ill fix the front end and clean up the engine.

I just love taking something apart.. especially something delicate or expensive/difficult, and seeing rtv extruded out the sides of the case cover..

I never use silicone on anything because it makes a mess and is prone to early failure, especially if you don't clean and prepare the gasket mating surfaces properly. Personally, I've always used Permatex #2 (non-silicone) with great success, but you have to use it sparingly on both sides of the gasket to get a good seal. I've never seen it fail if used properly. Permatex #1 is also useful on leaking manifolds.

The color of the gasket maker was black ,almost looked like the bolts had gaskets.

i once had to take an oil pan off that i swear the prev owner used windshield urethane to put on.. I had to pry and cut it off with a razor blade / scraper

the tube of goo surely cost more than the correct cheap cork pan gasket..

with theat windshield urethane on there.. it surely didn't need the 22 pan bolts to hold it on as that baby wasn't going anywhere...

Gasp! Correct and cork don't belong together in the same sentence, although cheap certainly applies to cork. I hate cork gaskets. :confused2:

from my experience the well designed cork gaskets that fail prematurely are ones that are over torqued or misinstalled in some fashion
