metal roof

   / metal roof #21
my pole barn has skylights

they are translucent roof pannels that start at the ridge. they lay up just like reg tin does, only 6 or 8' long down from the ridge.

while i have leaks the skylights dont. (mine are from popped roof nails elsewere)

when i re-tin the roof ill take them out as i plan on installing a ceiling so they would be pointless.

Toys,
We replaced with remaining translucent panels with steel that matched as closely as we could...no easy task.

Joe

You probably had nails to contend with. But a modern garage is more likely to be built with self drilling hex head tech screws. (Whoever invented those things should get a nobel prize.) I just built a shed and used a couple of 10 foot translucent corrugated sheets in the roof instead of a couple of metal sheets. I put them both on the western (afternoon) side of the roof. It looks smart and the light is terrific. As long as they don't get damaged theres no reason why they should leak any more than the metal. I don't know how they would stand up to snow but apart from that are supposed to last for years. With tech screws replacement would be easy anyway. But don't get the fibreglass stuff. It looks terrible after a few years.

edit. I'll partially retract what i said above about the fibreglass. Its probably tougher in some cases, and you are possibly not going to be looking UP at it much, so it may be a better choice in some cases.
