MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Before I get to what I built I wanted to some pictures of why I built this. This first shot shows my little home away from home. I've got 28 acres that's 4 miles down a dirt road and about 15 from the nearest town. When I bought the first 10 I/we had a spot picked out for the house. That later got moved to the rise behind my camper in the picture. The cleared pasture area in that shot was part of the first 10 acres and slopes down to the left to a small pond.

After settling on site #2 my parents bought the 148 acres that adjoined mine. We arranged to buy part of theirs to put the shop and barn. After the dozer guy had started, which I've had 4 different visits and well over 300 pics, we saw this hill and she said THAT'S where the house if going.

Now the only drawback to that site was that it was about 150 yards from the neighbors. I forgot to mention that we like peace and quiet. Also, their sewer tank sits about 2 feet from my fence line and contains no field lines just a trench to flow out. And, this would be about 200 feet southwest from where the house would be down wind most of the time.

I had already just accepted it and started to think of how to deal with it and hadn't thought about any other site. My fiance took me for a walk to show me where she thought it should go. This is across a small creek and further north of the previous spot. This was all timber property that was loaded with yaupon. We've pretty much decided that site #4 will somewhere in the middle of this shot.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Here's the main problem with this new site. Yaupon brush and downed trees everywhere make it pretty tough to just go in with the brush hog. And after 4 dozer bills amounting to nearly $15,000, I'm a little short right now. However, since my parents bought the adjoining land which looks about the same, my father and I are looking at buying a dozer. He's just got to convince my mother.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

Since I'm not the most patient person and I've just started learning to weld I decided to make basically a root rake. This would attach to an old bent Servis-Rhino scraper blade. It would be backed up into the roots and lifted to loosen things. It would also push the downed logs and limbs into piles so the area could be mowed.

I used all 3/8" tubing and flat bar with a cheap Cambell Hausfield AC welder. This is a shot of a frame joint with 2 passes of 6011 and a final pass of 7018ac.

The finished product. I know I'm making the tractor do more than it was designed for and even worse, could scratch the new paint. You can see the bend of the blade on the left side and how I had to allow for the difference.

This is after hitting the brush in the earlier shot. As you can see the sand does make it easier and if it ever rains again it might get even better.

Re: MF 135 thinks it\'s a dozer

The only problem I see is that as you push backwards and those teeth catch a root, the lift may want to raise up on you. Pulling it would be more effective.

Working in an area that will probably be the back yard. It is very slow and I won't even go into how much my neck hurts after a few hours.
