Tractor
MF 220 - Long 2360- Kioti 3054
With all of the knowledge floating around these forums, someone is bound to know where they all went. Part of them anyway. The MF 220 was imported by MF from 1978-1984 and have all but disapeared. Where have they gone and where can parts be found? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ByuBill

Welcome to TBN ByuBill. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Take a look at Yesterday Tractor website and check out ad section,or Massy tractor message & post website and the folks there might be able to lend a hand.
What part or parts are you looking for?
Have a grand day.

Thanks Thomas, for the welcome. You wouldn't believe how many forums that I have posted on about the MF 220 and how many sites that I have been to looking for parts. Most sites don't list the 220 in their parts section anymore. It is a great little tractor. Just a little noisy with a hole in the exhaust manifold. Massey Ferguson list them as obsolete. The company that built them(Toyosha) is no longer in business. Searching the national parts hotline, they are for the most part non-exsistant. Found a manifold in Kentucky or $150, can have this one welded for probably nothing. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the MF 220. Like how many were sold in the USA ect. Have searched the internet and have found one other one, price reduced to$4995. So where did they go?
Thanks again,
ByuBill

Thanks John, nice pic. I wish that mine was the 220-4. Would help on this 300 ft 12% grade driveway. Talk about a ski slope when it snows.... I have the specs on the tractor. Was wondering where they all went and where parts may be acquired. Seems from my searches that if mine breaks, parts aren't available. Couldn't sell it, I mean who would want a broke tractor that parts aren't available for. Wouldn't do much good to part it out, Who has one that they need parts for. I guess that I could plant flowers in the loader or something. Could unload it on some poor sucker that doesn't know any better. Naw,,,,,, not my style. So where did they all disappear to?

Have you try Massey website, for they might have the history on the model.
"So where did they go"..good question.
Like other models thru out the years they were inproved and given a new name, but like the past they shall always be around here an there. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I agree with you Thomas, 100%. It's called progress. Seems that almost, I did say, almost, any tractor out there from the early 1900's up until the late 1970's you can get parts for somewhere. After around 1985, the same thing. There seems to be a grey area there. I do realize that MF was in a restructuring period during that time and that is probably one of the reasons that their imports of compacts from this company were discontinued. I have contacted Massey Ferguson trying to find out a little history. Seems that no-one that I talked to was out of daipers at that time and knew nothing about it. They will check into it and get back with me. Ofcourse, I'm holding my breath. I have a lot of confidence in the corporate offices. Since I also work for a large corporation. So far I have found one MF 220 and one MF 210 for sale on the internet. The 210 is almost identical, has 5 hp less than the 220. Hey, that John Miller III is something else isn't he. He has pictures for everything. Almost any subject and he is sure to come through with a photo. Have a great day.

You're right... the 1980's were very turbulent for most ag and brought a number to their knees...

Massey Ferguson had just done a number of buildings and expansion in the late '70's (booming business that wouldn't quit...?) and were in hock past their "necks" when business came to almost a standstill in the 80's with absolutely no immediate relief in-sight... they couldn't even pay interest payments on their loans...

Over a three or four year period, MF lost about 1 billion dollars... when a billion was a billion...

International Harvester around '82/'83 lost about 1/2 billion in one year alone... about '84/'85 Case {a smaller company} got International in a fire sale...

Anyways, getting side-tracked... I don't know the exact relationship, but Hinomoto I think either took over the Toyosha line or were partners...??? But, try a search for Hinomoto for some parts for your MF220...

You may also try sheaftractor@coiinc.com as he does grey market parts/manuals...

I wish I could be more help... those compacts from the late 70's-early 80's were all built like tanks... I like to think of them as "miniature" utility tractors of the time...

Good luck in your searching...

John, I have to hand it to you. You are a world of knowledge, and have the photos to prove it. I have seen a lot of your post and you amaze me. I am sure a lot of others also. My hat is off to you. I have learned a lot just reading the post in forums all over the internet. You have taught me more than you know. I, and I am sure that I am not the only one, are very grateful that you take the time out of your day to post and reply as much as you do. I spend countless hours on the internet, guess that you could call me an internet junky. When I need to know something about tractors or related subjects, all I have to do is look for post from, John Miller III. Thank you very much for being here.

Yep John indeed great guy!
Like to see a picture of his computer work area..wonder what it may look like. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
I would be most intrested in the findings that Massey sends you about the MF 220
Stay safe and warm.

I appreciate the kind words… When you have a love and passion for something… it helps…

Thank you…

I had failed to mention… another year International Harvester lost over 1 ½ billion dollars just prior to their demise… So Massey’s loss of 1 billion was pale in comparison to International’s 2 ½ billion total loss.

The ‘80’s were devastating for the entire ag industry in general… I understand a number of farmers committed suicide after the banks foreclosed on their farms and to “help” their families pay the bills…? {insurance…?}

It was certainly a very sad time for many…

Thomas, I would be willing to bet that John has a photo of his computer work area that he could easily produce. I'm not so sure that anyone would like to know the resopnse that I got this morning from M F. Typical coroprate, I don't have time for this, might miss a coffee break answer.
Here is part of my orginal inquiry:::
I have recently acquired a Massey Ferguson MF 220 compact tractor. Which I also recently found out are obselete. I know that (from my searching the internet) that they were built from 1978-1984, imported from Japan. They
have a 26.7hp, 90.3cid, 2cyl, Toyosha diesel engine. They weigh 2765lbs and cost new $8,486.00 . Beyond that, there isn't much to be found out about them.
The MF parts hotline was searched. No Parts available.
I have searched the national tractor salvage hotline and very, very few parts can be found.
Searching the tractors for sale sites, I have come up with one (1) for sale and an MF 210. All of this sparked my curiosity. I have been trying to find out the history of the 220 and no-one seems to know much about it.
The response that I recieved this morning::::

Subj: Massey Ferguson MF 220
Date: 1/28/2002 8:36:12 AM Eastern Standard Time
From: Doug.Durand@agcocorp.com (Durand, Doug)
To: MARBILROG@aol.com

Your local MF dealer should be able to order the parts for you. As far as the history goes, we cannot be of much help. You might try www.yesterdaystractors.com <http://www.yesterdaystractors.com> This is a
good site and has a lot of info.
Thanks

I guess that good old Doug didn't read my inquiry or has a real short memory. I wanted to tell him that although 'yesterdaystractors' is a great site, maybe he should visit 'TractorByNet'. He might learn something. I was very nice in my response to his mail. Used my 'focus skills' and let him know what I thought. He must have missed his 'focus class' I have to go twice a year, company policy.
Have a wonderful day.

I have a MF220-4 and most(if not all) parts are available from a good dealer. By the way, the 4wd version has 31.6 hp , or at least that is what my dealers info manuals said. It helps with the extra weight and driving mech. I guess. Mine has a loader and seems like it would push a mountain if you asked it. All in all I couldn't have asked for a better tractor in my limited expierience.

I must admit that it is a sweet running little tractor. Even with a crankcase full of diesel. Long story, but it seems to have blown a seal in the injection pump. Four dealers in my area all say the same thing. You have to take it off and have it rebuilt somewhere. They can't get seals for it. I don't suppose that you have tried to find an exhaust manifold for yours either. They are also obsolete. Where I live now. One acre(very steep acre) on the side of a mountian. The only use that I have for a tractor is dirveway upkeep. I bought a 1996 Long 2360 for that and the next week, just my luck, I ran across the MF 220 with FEL and RB for an unbelievable price. Being the country boy that I am and love to play on tractors, I couldn't pass it up. Didn't need it, just wanted it. So when I get these two tractors in the shape that I want them I will sell or trade them in. Got to have that 4X4 tractor that I should have gotten in the first place. So if you know a MF Dealer that can get me an exhaust manifold, I sure could use his phone number. I would rather have that 220-4 in the pic that J.M.III posted.
Thanks for the reply. There hasn't been many about an MF 220.

Thanks, none really.
That just doesn't sound right. Maybe I should have just said, Thanks, really,

any help is appriceated. I did contact the local MF dealers in this area. They ran it through their parts hot line. Nothing to be found. I also ran it through a national tractor salvage parts hot line. One was found in western Kentucky. $150. Thanks again.

i have a 220-4. great tractor. no powersteering. great for hauling out logs- treelength. kicks [censored] in the woods.
its from the 80's. the bottom of the tractor is the best. its solid and there is nothing for sticks to get caught on.
hit many rocks on hte bottom. still kicks [censored]. never put inside for winter. still kicks [censored]. all we do is change the oil every year. lost the muffler this year, got a new black one to put on. not much baffle in it. the other one was white.
