MF GC1720 4WD Front Axle Hydraulic Oil

2018 MF GC1720-4WD...
A newbie here... Silly question, why would the Hyd. Oil in Front axle be dark colored after only 55 hours? I have been using 4WD to push snow since Dec. But it seems awfully dark...???

Wouldn’t be hydraulic oil in the axle; should be basically gear oil I would think. Check your manual for the specs

It's hydraulic oil...

Mine was kinda dark too. Who knows why.

Didn't worry about it and put new in. Still going strong.

Thanks seville009 , but it is hydraulic oil, same as the transmission and rear end (hydrostatic).

Probably dark from all the cutting oil at the factory. That is why they typically recommend changing all the fluids at 50 hours....flush everything out.

My 2009 GC2410 called for MF Permatran lll for the front axle, but I decided to use this:

AMSOIL SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBE SAE 80W-90

The front end lives an easy life from a lubrication stand point. If you are in a cold climate lean toward the hydraulic oil and in warmer climates the gear oil is probably fine. The oil in the front end of a tractor is a non issue.
