Our furry friends are active. As previously stated had an air cleaner box stuffed full acorns last fall. Mice or ground squirrels?
Finally put some 1/2” SS screen on the intakes. Used leather hole puncher to make some holes to lock screens in place.

Spread open plastic plenum to fit screens which countered any restriction from the wire.

Tied a dryer sheet inside nose cone. No new nests over the winter.

I think a mouse could go right through those holes

Red squirrels will live like mice, invade similar spaces, stow similar snacks, might even chew off a wire to a fuel injector to gain more room to stash acorns 'neath an upper intake manifold. DAMHIK  Keep a hood open on parked vehicles as much as possible, it's called the "TBN Trick" by many. ;)

Consider using a few of these, also from Home Depot or TSC. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012RGM7BO/ref=twister_B07T276CMS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Don't put 'em in the open to invite birds and bait 'em with black oil sunflower seeds for NO ANTS or moldy people-food bait if they may be ignored for days and/or to minimize non-target kills. I confess some of these shown were caught using pieces of hot dog impaled on the trigger wires of 110 connibears but you didn't ask ask about trapping anyway. :) Still, you may get this in a handful of these between New Year's and Spring.

Had some work to do today with the mini x .. got in the truck with the intent to hook up the trailer when I smelt mouse..again. ..it was just a couple months ago when I posted last on this thread. And I changed the cabin air filter then..then again today..they got in and built another nest on top of the air filter. .. the truck had only been sitting about a week and they took full advantage. .. got that all cleaned and de smelled.. then got in the mini.... more mouse smell...they actare my gloves that were in the minis cab. Fortunately no nest, just a matter of degreaser and power wash to get rid of the mouse **** and smell. .. things are relentless.

Try leaving a light on under or near hood of vehicle. If no power in area use solar powered rope lights from local discount store.

My CATS don't like the light , They sleep on the tractor seats in the day and patrol at night , Leave me gifts in the morning........:D

One of the best mousers I ever knew would just leave a tiny gut pile not as big as the end of my finger. Something in a mouse he's pick over. I got three huge mice since Saturday, One was halfway out of the rat-sized trap he'd crawled to the back to clean out.

My barn floor array is 3 small around two large Tomcat poly traps and black oil sunflower seeds. I've only ever caught field mice, meadow voles, chipmunks and red squirrels that crawled too far into the building. Bait doesn't draw any bugs/critters or get moldy.

Went out and hooked up the chipper to the back of the tractor after I posted last time....Giant mouse nest inside it. Actually completely clogged the chute... That one was a simple fix but ...man. Mice this year are out of control
