My niece placed Irish Spring bars all over my dad’s house. When my wife and I tore it down some of those bars were gnawed to half size. Found one dead mouse in electrical box that shorted and electrocuted - very effective. Moth balls have worked well in my Mini-ex the past 6 years. Squirrels had eaten 11 circuits in a week between using it and it not starting. Spliced new wire across the missing spaces, packed armrests and fuse box with moth balls and no more problem. Neighbor had a horse euthanized, hauled it into his dead cow disposal area. Vet said it wouldn’t cause a problem. Two days later he took a dead cow out and found 3 dead protected raptors plus 2 dying so he dug a trench large enough to bury the horse carcass. Since then I’ve been Leary of poison, especially since we have so many hawks and eagles around, but having hay and grain around can be such a lure I found I need to use some poison. My combine and largest tractor have a rodent repellent made with balsam oil in the cab and engine compartment. Had to use that tractor Saturday - very powerful odor but for once no mice scrambling from the engine compartment when I started it. Going to get some more but not useful in open areas like a building.
