Anyone know of aftermarket midmount blades? I specificly have a JD 4520 that I would love to fit a midmount instead of a 3pt or front blade for road maint and construction.

Placing a mid mount blade on a CUT has a few limitations. First, the height of blade is limited due to low clearance of the tractor. Won't be able to push lots of material. Second, the low clearance also limits how high the blade can be lifted. Could have problems clearing obstacles, getting stuck in mud, scalping the ground over hills, ditches etc. Third, more expensive than rear blade or front blade. Fourth, would be fairly tractor specific with mounting hardware/brackets. Might be difficult to get rid of later.
Advantages would be down pressure. Easy to see what you doing. Easier to do a level job since blade in in the middle between the tires.

Or you could make your own. But Radman is right about the clearance drawbacks. However; a good design could lessen clearance problems--Folding blade. This one doesn't fold up but I've never had much of a clearance problem. You just need to watch where you drive it.

LOL... Yeah, but I think people are getting tired of seeing it. It's the "Kenbota" I built a few years ago. It was pre-dozer and pre-tractor acquisition that I built to tend the driveway. It's still handy and gets lots of use around the place though.

Find a 1950 era CUB. That blade could be mounted under the belly and was lifted by the hydraulic arm that picked up every thing else. Great little gadget. Smoothed a lot of driveways with mine. bcs

Willl thanks for the link.

I know that there are some limitations, but depending on cost I still want one.

Getting a little foggy about this, but I think there was a guy on the IH Cub Registry who did an amazing job of fabricating a mid-mount grader blade for a Cub Cadet garden tractor. I think he made up some cardboard mockups before actually cutting steel. But if I recall right, I think he experienced the same issues radman1 is cautioning about. But if anyone is serious about trying this for themselves, they might find some useful information there.

The Farmall Cub did have a center mounted grader blade.

Now CCken's kenbota is an interesting machine. Hadn't seen this before--but sure am going to look over his pictures.

I have often thought of building one that mounts under the tractor with pivot points where the draft links attach and using the three point lift arms to put down pressure. Raising the blade would have to be with a counter weight. I may try it this winter but I'm too busy right now.

I still have a Cub with the blade it could front ore mid mount as well. Ive maintained many miles of roads a nd drives with it. Dad has an old A with the same thing. I think the grouser blade is super expensive but effective. Ive seen one in Tupelo a concrete company was using to trim a pad. Youll have to get used to the 2 control levers, they are set up like a Motor grader each side has a lever. The one I saw had laser recivers on it that let him know if he was too hight or low. had it roughed in good by eye and feel. I ve used a Huber/Athey grader like this it was and industrial larger tracto sorta like Kens. Had a knockdown blade on the fron and a loader, and in the middle was a bout a 10 foot moldboard. a bit longer than a tractor though.
