Hey HJT,
Get some gypsum pellets and toss on the ground and then till the leaves in. Do this a few years and you will have ground you will sink to your ankles in.
You need to get some dirt on top of the leaves to help them break down... does not take much dirt. The gypsum will really break up the soil. Old ground up drywall will work as well..
I did this to a plot and the corn would not stand up after knee high.
