I agree. I'd remind them that it is under warranty, unless you bought an "aged" new unit. Miller's warranty starts ticking after a dealer has had it for a year regardless if it is sold or not (If I remember their terms correctly).

The dealer ordered this machine for me so it wasn't a floor model.

Ok......I just talked to the shop and they told me it wasn't under warranty because I had replaced the original cord with a longer cord. So I guess they got me this go around. Still $259.00 seems like a lot to replace a switch that only cost $21.00. I wish I had it to go over with again. I would have just bought a switch at Lowes and been welding all this time. OH well we live and learn......I'm getting too dang old to be worrying bout small stuff like this I'm heading out to pick up my welder.

So they are claiming you damaged the switch? Are they claiming the whole unit is not under warranty or just the switch?

I didn't ask that but they did say this service would not be covered. Note to self.....The next time you buy a welder don't put a long cord on it.......At least until the warranty runs out.;)

Did you call miller? Longer cord is a bs excuse.

Was there a reason you didn't go to the Lws where you bought it?

Yeah it does seem like a bs excuse cause most everyone puts longer cords on those machines and as long as it's heavy enough it should not matter but they are saying I broke the switch putting it on which is still a petty excuse cause it's been on there for almost 3 years.

The reason I didn't take it back to the people I bought it from is that they are not a service center.

Have you posted this on the Miller forum? Some very knowledgeable guys over there concerning this stuff. I bet Miller would go to bat for you on this.

Before I retired, I worked weekends for a guy that was a Miller dealer and repair center, and Miller often went above and beyond for the customer.

I agree with Blackn Tan.
I've had nothing but good experience with Miller reps over the years. :)

I have a bobcat I need to take and have fixed. I'm scared of the bill when I take it. I think they get used to raping the commercial customers they don't think twice about getting the home hobby weldors. Sometimes I think they go overboard and with the economy they try to get every cent possible I see it with our supplier at work.

I'm no attorney but the wording of the warranty seems problematic. It reads, "All warranty time periods start on the delivery date of the equipment to the original end-user purchaser, and not to exceed twelve months after the equipment is shipped to a North American distributor or eighteen months after the equipment is shipped to an International distributor."

The problem to me is the operative word, 'and'. For it to make sense to me, the operative word should be 'or'. I don't see how both conditions can be met after 12months. :confused3:
