Pretty cold here now. Mid-upper 20’s.

Yup.....I sure know it is cold!
I have not been here in Winter for 25 years.
Freezin my axx off in this 290 year old house.
Hot water boiler running constantly....interior temp got up to a HIGH of 69 today!
Solid (thin) walls....no insulation, old windows.
Outside temp 22 this AM.
Sweatshirt weather....INSIDE!!!

must cost a fortune to heat . my house is well insulated (1996 build) with dual glazed windows. its 20F outside, 68F inside. if i turn off all power at 10pm, the temp will drop only 2 degrees by 6am. how i know...i just went thru a 2.5 day power outage and didnt want to run gen over night.

That is EXACTLY why a mini, though nice, would never appeal to me.
The reason a TLB is best for me, is because it can DRIVE, rather than crawl!

You are right... The downside on a mini is moving it. The upsides speak for themselves.

At 80, Covid has me trapped here, waiting for a shot so that I can feel safe to fly South, hopefully for at least the remainder of Winter (Spring?)

Surprised no one has mentioned a brown tree cutter. Can easily take out and shred the trees and brush you mentioned. Used to restore fields, pastures and trails. 50hp+ 4x4 tractor is pretty nimble and easy on the ground. Chained tires if necessary. Be a good complement for your hay business. Tree encroachment and evasive plants is a big problem in the south. Clearing gradually and maintaining the new growth over several years if you had a hay interested might be better for both parties. Kinder, gentler way than shock and awe.

Kinda looks to me like Haydude came on here and asked if anyone had used a mini excavator with a mulching head, then people joined the thread just to insult him. Maybe since the politics thread got shut down this is how people find another way to take its place. I read these threads just to learn but try to hold my advice unless I can add something useful. I have read enough of Haydudes threads to know he has a lot of experience and never got the impression he was on a high horse.

I have horses and like them! Some of mine are higher than others.:laughing:
I work for a large equipment dealer. Owner has a lot of forest land. There have been a lot of really large machines with mulching heads. While all of the big equipment will work, it does tear the ground up. Even a log skidder will put ruts in the ground a foot deep. And there are no longer any small loggers in this area of the country. The small areas are being cleaned up with a skid steer, mostly tracked, and a mulching head. But there are starting to be more excavators with heads on them. Hired out at $125 an hour or a lot more. Depends on size of equipment. I do try and keep my dozer off the slopes. If you give water a place to run, it will go there. My boss also mows his hill side around his pond at his hunting lodge with a very large excavator with a mower on the head. I think the cost of that machine is over $350,000. I would love it to mow my ditches, but I use a ditch bank flail mower.
Even old pasture land down here is being cleaned up with mulching heads.
