Mine are also 55 watt halogens. I'm sure they put a drain on the battery, but to me it's worth it. I go back into the woods at night every once in a while. It's nice to see everything bright and lit up.

55 Watts is a little less than 5 amps. The alternator is rated at 15. So two lights plus the fan (which is 5 amps and you don't have one) gives about 15 amps. If you use a trickle charger while parked it does not matter too much if you run the battery down a little while operating. I actually have a switch on each front lamp so I can run just one if that's all I need. I have a flashing light in the back, but I have not measured its current. I only use it when on or near the road.

The extra light is a big help and you probably only run them a few times a month, so no big deal.

The 180 does have a cooling fan in the back, not on top of the unit. I only run the lights once in a while, there so bright I can see in back of me. I haven’t needed to add a backup light. I have a trickle charger, but haven't felt the need to use it.

When doing a lot of moving snow at night. I will be hooking up the charger. I didn't think to put in separate switches, good idea. I plan to do the cigarette lighter thing for other accessories. I’m sure I'll be using the trickle charger a little more after that.

I mounted a little tool box on the inside of my cab the other day. I put basic tools in it for out in the field. It also works as an extra place to set things when the lids closed.
