Special flied lice?

I know nothing about airplanes but with human nature and political events what they are I'll take a stab that it's on the ground in some dictator-type nation. Just a hunch.

When it's said and done, in my opinion the plane will be found within 100 miles of the last radio transmission. At the bottom of the ocean.

Agreed. The most obvious result.

Anything is possible, but why go through the trouble of turning everything off that records what's happening and that tracks their location if you are going to crash it into the ocean?

Here is a map of runways big enough to land the 777

I never thought about the possibility that the goal was to steal something being carried on the plane. Wonder if that's the real reason the Chinese are so upset?

And if you pulled off the hijacking, why keep it quiet?

Lots of things don't match. Maybe tracking wasn't turned off, and we are just being told that. I don't know, but it sure stinks, no matter the story.

I talked to a friend of mine who was in the RAF, who spent years in that area of the world. He said that there are hundreds of unmarked airstrips all over that part of the world.

joemd11; I agree. I hope they find it.

dmccarty; I also agree that if it had been a hijacking, someone would be bragging by now.

With the varied search areas, not fitting the info we are being told, it still has me wondering who knows how much, and why is it being kept secret?

If it was hijacked, there was significant planning involved. The passengers are collateral damage and not worth much. The pot of gold for the terrorists would be a 777 loaded with plutonium and nose driven onto Washington, NY, Boston, Va etc. It would be in their best interest to keep quiet and stealthy until it's to late.

But that aircraft will be sending info again before it gets to the targets. It is probably worthless for that purpose. Fighters should be scrambled before it reaches a target. I don't think the passengers were the target, but yes, probably collateral damage. If it wasn't taken over for what is onboard, it might be at the bottom of the ocean, and we are being told all sorts of different things on the news stations, because no one has their stories straight yet.

The passengers are worth something in a plot where the plane would be used for an attack. If that is what happened, that plane is sitting somewhere and would certainly be a pre-emptive target for destruction by a drone or cruise missile. The live passengers would be used as a human shield to try to prevent that attack. It has nothing to do with ransom, just a field asset.

Read today where the pilots wife and kids moved out the day before "the" flight.
