missing gates

I thought I knew what "jersey barriers" were, but I looked it up just to be sure.
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/get171.shtml>Here</A> is an article with a good description and history about them.

"Utility Vault of Kent, sells a 10-foot, 3,900-pound barrier and a 12.5- foot, 4,900-pound segment, both in the $400 to $500 range. They are more expensive than metal guardrails, but tougher. Like New Jersey."

Maybe you can buy them used?

Bruce,

I'm not bustin' on ya, just wondering what kind of tractor you're going to use to move a 2 ton concrete barrier (using the weight Bill found for a 10' section).

An alternative would be to place the barriers in such a fashion that they block the trail to cars and trucks but are far enough apart to permit a snowmobile. The total width of the 2 barriers blocks the trail, but the distance between them allows a snowmobile. Of course it would also allow a motorcycle then, too. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

BillG49, Thanks! for the pointer to the article.... interesting to know the history.

Mike, here in Maine and NH all I have seen are the 5 foot versions. They are all up and down the highway. I'll have it dropped off at the main road and I'll use the Cub Cadet to drag it the 1/2 mile to the other property line. The Cub has 50% better 3pt lift capacity than any of the other colors (3410 lbs). The purpose is to keep out the 5% of 4-wheelers that are driven by a$$h...s. If I leave enough room from the sleds, then the 4-wheelers can make it through. They don't seem to respect any other barrier and it's nearly impossible to get the sheriff out after them. I'm not a gun person, but I could be corrupted if they had an open season on 2 legged animals. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
