Dougster, A friend of mine has a NH TC35 with a backhoe, I borrowed it before I had my own hoe. The thing he warned me about was his quick detach bucket.
Well, I believe it was Skip who pinned his QA bucket to his tool carrier as additional protection against dropping. That's fine for just one bucket... but I have too dang many buckets to make that approach feasible: Light-duty, heavy-duty, toothed digging bucket, toothed stump bucket and root/rock grapple.

It's been a nuisance issue since day one. Initially, we determined that the right side locking mechanism was not engaging. I replaced it and rebuilt the left side as well. Everything seemed reasonably fine for a while (very few bucket drops)... but now the buckets are dropping again like rain and my 401(k).

Doug, With the bucket off and the locks in the lock position, see if you can push the pin upward. If so I would say that the springs are not sufficient. If the pin cannot be pushed up because it does not ride on the spring, I would say that the handles are sliding to the unlock position somehow. In that case some kind of a retaining clip could be fashioned. If it is the springs I suggest finding heavier ones.

I don't believe that is the failure mechanism... I've got all new springs in there. Best way I can describe the problem without writing a book here is that everything just seems to be too loose. Plain, old-fashioned loose. Until I get a chance to do some serious tests and observation, that's the best way I can describe it.

Sounds to me that you are bucket poor, not dirt poor. You have bought enough implements and attachments that I think that maybe you are tractor poor.

Does your bucket fall off after everything has been cleaned? My QA works great when clean,:) but after working a lot in the dirt to where dirt has become piled up & around the pins & springs then not so good and sometimes not at all.:( What I mean to imply is if I change buckets and the QA is a mess, then it doesn't always work, the pins don't always go down & lock the bucket on. Is this when you have problems, or do you have problems all the time no mater the circumstances?

My QA fits loose on my forks, very loose, but if it is locked on it cannot come off, it may be able to move some, but it can't come off, I think, I hope.

Well, if I could have afforded a 7520+ML275 in the first place, including a monster heavy-duty bucket, I wouldn't be needing so many different utensils! On the other hand, some jobs require delicate, light-weight and smaller. I could never have done last week's "patio-over-septic" job with your giant, brute mega-beast!

The buckets have always fit at least somewhat loose at the bottom. The pins can be moved back and forth and side to side depending on bucket position. It does not appear to be related to dirt. It can happen clean or in the mud. Fit and function seemed a lot better after the latch fixes were made... but it has obviously not ended the bucket dropping problem. It's not happening as often as when the right pin was only being about half inserted... but, unfortunately, it is still happening far too often.

Good heavens... I can't live here guys. Besides I have good news... Dr let me out of my sling after 4 weeks now that I am back from the doctor...... Now to answer the question.... It's nothing too exciting... They are simply used to attach the hoist hooks to lift it onto the paint line. That's all. Wish it was more exciting than that.... :)

OK, Doug what do I win?
