MMM Height adjustment

I have a JD4310 with a 60" MMM. I feel the MMM height adjustment could use some improvement. I called my Dealer last fall about the metal tab they use to keep the height adjustment knob from rotating. The tab bends easy. My Dealer called JD and asked about it. I guess they had taken a number of calls on it. I was informed that it was being looked into but was not high on the list. I call my Dealer from time to time but they have no new information.

I was wondering what others thought about it? In general it works ok but for as much as you pay for the deck you would think it would be of better design. I really wish you could set the height from the seat without leaving the tractor.

Yeah, that height adjustment is pretty rinky dink isn't it? I feel the same way. When I adjusted my MMM, I used the height guage John Deere recommends in the manual and set the height from side to side and front to rear. Was a big PITA but glad I did it because the deck was all out of level and kilter. Once you place the MMM deck in the float position, it puts so much weight on the adjustment linkage that it is nearly impossible to move. I just mark my height adjust wheel with a piece of white tape so I can verify if it has moved or not.

I guess I have just been comparing it to the height adjustment I had on my JD445 lawn and garden but then again it's main purpose was mowing. I just feel for the price the stop on the knob could have been done better. It would also be nice to be able to recover to a know height setting. Guess I get spoiled on a tractor that has cruise like a car. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree! Maybe they will come out with a fix for it later.

I agree. The 60" MMM on my 4310 mows great, but is difficult to adjust. Took me a bit to figure out how to prevent the mower from dropping when I wanted it to stay in the raised position. The manual didn't appear to have been written by a native English speaker! Still great mower. I, too, hope that Deere will make improvements that can be retrofitted.
