I am concidering a 3PT log splitter attachment for my Kubota 1850. I looked at the 3 PT Attachment with 3 1/2" x 18" cylinder and 20" Log Capacity from Ramsplitter. Does anyone nhave any experience wiyth this model?

I purchased that splitter in the fall. I have a BX2350. It does a decent job and the cycle time is adequate(it is still fairly slow). My only complaint is that it does get stopped by some of the larger pieces that I have tried to split. If I take very thin "bites" at the piece I can usually work it down and split it, but there are some pieces that I haven't been able to split with it.
Make sure when ordering that you specify the correct quick disconnects. I told them a Kubota and the ones the shipped were too large. Do a search on the forum to find out the correct size to specify. If you have any specific questions let me know.

I have a 3ph splitter that I bought when I had a BX 2230. The cycle time was very slow, due to the hydraulic pump output of the tractor. It had no problems splitting the wood, any size, any type, just really slow. The main problem was the legs on the splitter. The legs on the splitter would drag on the ground when transporting it due to the low clearance of the tractor. If the type of splitter you're getting doesn't have legs, this wouldn't be a problem for you. I got a B7800 last year and the cycle time improved greatly, and clearance is no longer a problem. Also, your Kubota dealer will have the right fittings, just take them with you when you get your lines made up, and make sure the lines are longer than you think you need. I had my lines made about 2 feet longer than required, and am glad I did. Hope this helps.
Best of luck,
Pat

Unless you really have your heart set on a 3PH wood splitter you should at least consider the merits of a stand alone wood splitter. They generally have much faster cycle times, depending on the GPM of your tractor. It is usually easier to transport a stand alone splitter to another location where you might want to use it than to drive or trailer the tractor.

You can use the tractor to transport wood to of from the splitter. A stand alone splitter is easier to move around than a 3PH splitter that is not mounted to the tractor is.

I looked at buying a 3PH splitter and found that the cost of the splitter and the required hoses, fittings, and valves was a little more than a stand alone.

Very sound advice. But in my situation, most people figure they don't need to buy things when they can just "borrow" them. Usually from me, and usually while I'm at work. I'm the type of person who says if I'm gonna need it, I might as well buy it. It's awful difficult for someone to come hook up to to my splitter and haul it off when they need a 3ph and a hydraulic pump to run it. Sad to say but I deal with too many leeches who have no problem tearing my stuff up so they won't have to spend money on their own. This is one thing I don't need to put under lock and key.

I purchased the 16ton splitter this past fall from Ramsplitter. I had a few problems to start with the plumbing but overall was satisfied with the splitter in the end. If you search my name and read the posts you'll understand the problems. Mostly me, :D but I never could get it to run right off the the BH connections on my BX22. I did split about 4 cords with the same results as mentioned above. Some larger logs I "Shaved" then split. Out of 4 cords I had maybe 4 logs I couldn't split. For the money its a good deal.
It cycles good for me, but is not as fast as a gas powered unit. I'm not in that big of a hurry. I split aroud 6 cords a year, some in spring and some in fall. If I had a whole lot more to split I'd get a different splitter.
I bought mine off Ebay from the same guy as the ramspliiter site and payed around 110 for shipping and 300 for the unit, 410 or so total. I think he sells them for 550 or so outright on his site.

Had mine several years now. Bought correct QCs. No problems plumbing to PB circuit. Speed comments all true...I work alone, so no problem for me.:) As for not splitting, depends on wood...I split mostly straight-grained oak up to 3' dia, but have had few crotch pieces wouldn't split. Bottom line: Know your wood. If you want "production," look elsewhere...
