Moms car stolen today while at Doctor's office for a checkup...

From what I was told, the guy that did the improvements was not the thief.. He got ripped off too.. Lost a truck he thought was legit and put money into. When you buy a vehicle that is stolen, even if you buy it in good faith, and put money into it, the vehicle still belongs to the original owner that it was stolen from in the first place.

Oh man, that would stink.

OK... I just can't let this go so I was looking at the online picture that showed Mom's tires and wheels for sale and had a hunch it might be several towns over...

I took a drive over and found the location.

Got out of my car and found an old industrial warehouse full of old toyota and honda being cut up/disassembled... not a license plate to be found... the guy spoke broken english and acted very strange...

He said this is a body shop... yet there was no spray booth and nothing being put together... only taken apart.

Told him I had the right address but the company I was looking for must have moved and I left.

The current occupant has only been in the space several weeks and has no business license...

Went straight to the Police Station and was told the Detective was not available and leave him a message...

I think I would stay away from there,could be a dangerous there I would let the detective take care of it.

You went to a chop shop. I would sure think the cops would like to shut that thing down. Don't be a Steven Segall!

I had a pistol stolen once. Doing some sleuthing work, I found who had my pistol and called the police.

I called the police with the name and address and how I had gone about finding out (simple story: my new gf turned out to have a dope habit I didn't know about and she paid her supplier off with my gun). Go get a search warrant and bust the door in, right coppers? Nope.

The police called the bad guy and asked if they could schedule a look around dope dealer's house for my pistol, oh say next week Tuesday good for you, bad guy?

Oddly enough, the Tombstone cops found nothing.

To this day, the city desk of the cop shop calls me once a year to find out if I've recovered my pistol.

Memories of the whole affair just make me face palm.

I know it's a serious character flaw and realize no one cares about Mom's loss as much as we do... especially since she carries full coverage and standard advice is to move on.

Sometimes I think I missed my calling as I really wanted to follow in my Uncle's footsteps and make a career in Law Enforcement... just my timing was off.

Doing nothing is giving the crooks license to steal which rubs me the wrong way.

One would hope but sadly it all depends on what the police will do. The normal Joe's stolen car doesn't seem to be high on the list. I would like to be proven wrong in this case.
