^^^ It's something I think I would enjoy...

When I managed a lot of low income rentals at one period of my life... the skill set shared many attributes of Detective work... there were always people trying to get one over and I tharwated several legal actions because of the facts I had through excellent record keeping.

My regular job entails chief of security for the Hospital where I work... always try to resolve issues by reason and 99% successful so far.

I hate to say it but if the new car was stolen tomorrow... it would have no where the emotional attachment and that is partly my fault for participating on the factory build of the car that was stolen... even 14 years later... people would be captivated when someone commented on how nice she kept up her car and then she would show them the pictures of her at the factory the day it was being built just for her...

Thankfully it's much harder to steel tractors around here than cars... I don't think someone would get to far driving my crawler down the paved road and my backhoes are stored inside...

Take it to the newspapers quick.
Put a poorly written ad on CL with their address.

Years ago, ok, decades ago,:laughing::laughing:, I had a my dream car stolen in Tampa FLA by a career car thief who was just barely 18 or 19. The POlice found the car, a Camaro z28 with a high output engine and a five speed, and eventually caught the thief and his two friends who were under 18. The reasons they were caught is that the water pump was fried which overheated the car and the computer shutdown the engine. What I did not know until I picked up the car from the lot was the AC was fried, a head was cracked, a couple transmission mounts were broke along with the water pump. Insurance fixed up everything but the head because I did not know about it. The head failed crossing Alligator Alley on a hot summer day and left us on the side of the road for 4-5 hours before we could get a tow back home....

Waiting for the tow, two semis stopped in the hot sun to watch the wife sitting by the car. When the trucks first stopped they could not see me but eventually they did. The drivers never asked if we needed help. They ust sat in the hot daytime sun watching the wife. If I had not been there, I am sure the wife would have disappeared....

Eventually, we got the car home and to a dealership where it cost ME another $1,200 to fix the car. What Nationwide put me through was orders of magnitude worse than what the thief did to us. Nationwide lied, delayed, lied, lied and lied. It was not just one person either but many. I called the complaint line and the agent said doing that using the compliant line made my case worse. :confused3: WTF! REALLY? Years later, I witnessed car accident. The insurance company wanted to get a statement from me. Well, the officer took my statement, and since the insurance company was Nationwide I told the person what Nationwide had done to me years ago. I told the caller that it was not their fault that they worked for a $%^&*() company, but if Nationwide wanted a statement from me, they could subpoena my a...s to court where I would be happy to talk. But it was going to cost Nationwide.:mad::mad:

Back to Tampa. Tampa was having a raft of car thefts because the police would not go after the thieves. In my case, I had the bad luck to get my car back, though they caught the thieves. What happened to the thieves? Well the two JVs wrote a letter saying how bad they were and how they are sorry. The "adult" was sent to jail but while there he found two things. Jesus and a reporter who listened to his "story" of finding Jesus. They let him out of jail and within 24 hours he had stolen another car.:rolleyes: I guess he found Jesus real quick and lost him even faster....

Since Tampa was ignoring car thefts this just made other crime rates go up since they were encouraging people to break the law. Eventually, the city decided that they would have to go after car thefts, and when they did, the overall crime rate fell. Well DUH.

Back to the car thief. This guy had his momma believing he was a saint. When he was arrested the officers took anything that might have been mine and put it in my car. This included a HUGE set of car keys, flip flops, some clothes, and other crap from the thieves. A week or so after he was caught, his momma called me up asking if we could meet so *** I *** could return the THIEVES stuff!:shocked::shocked: REALLY? Now I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to meet him but I declined.:laughing::laughing: So what did he want back? Well the flip flops, a jacket, the keys of course, and get this, MY JUMPER CABLES.:mad::mad: I had a really nice set of jumper cables in the car that he had seen and he was asking me to bring him my jumper cables. REALLY? I could tell he was in the background telling his momma want to say. I still have those jumper cables. :D:D:D

The sad thing is that the *** CRIMINAL *** Justice system protects and enables people like this which is a crime in itself.

Later,
Dan

Slow day today... gave everything to the auto detail via a voice mail... have not heard back.

Tempted to go back but a second time would be pushing my luck.

At this point nothing would make me happier than to read about the Police busting up another auto theft ring!

I've heard other horror stories about Nationwide. and others that think they are great. makes me wonder if the ones that think they are great, are getting ripped off and just don't know it. I've never used them myself.

Not a word back from Detective although someone said they could very well be working the case...

It's been a little over 3 weeks and nothing would tickle me more than to read about a theft ring being busted.

Think I've done about all I can except checking Craigslist from time to time...

Think I've done about all I can...

You've done more than anyone could have been expected to do!!

It was hard to read the story. My parents are about your mom's age and I do what I can to look out for them. Fortunately they live in a very low crime, rural area so not too much to worry about there. But the daytime TV commercials that try to con them ought to be outlawed!!
