Moms car stolen today while at Doctor's office for a checkup...

Don't know... but it was a heart-warming story...

Kind of like the time I caught a thief trying to break into the Hospital Pharmacy at 2 am... gave chase as the units arrived... officer asked where and I pointed to a landscaped area... announced on the loudspeaker to surrender and then sent in the dog that also got a bite...

Several months later I was named as a witness for the thief who was sued the country for the dog bit...

I said the officer called out once and that was that... thief said he didn't hear it...

On another note, had to work night shift the other evening. On way to work at 7:00pm I missed a gas station murder by one block and about 2 minutes. On way home at 2:00am I missed a robbery/shooting by 4 blocks and 3-4 minutes. 14 shootings resulting in injury or death since first of the year.... and everyone's happy because there were 20 in the same time period last year!

A few years back I was heading home on a city street I drive everyday where Motorcycle Officers had set up traffic stops looking for uninsured, unlicensed and unregistered vehicles which there are plenty...

I was waved through... minutes later there was a gun battle with the same officers and when over... 4 officers killed and the gunman... the funeral was huge with neighboring city police departments patrolling city streets so as many in the department could attend...

The irony if you can call it that is marches and protests were held on city streets because the gunman was killed. Five years later the officer down memorial for the 4 keeps getting stolen...

Our local beat officer... one of the nicest caring guys always involved with youth sports was gunned down by a wanted felon during a routine traffic stop... I had talked with him earlier that same week.

We've not had that many officers killed in the line of duty, but enough to make you remember each one. One of the one's I remember most was because about 13 years after he was killed I ended up coaching his only child in grade school softball. Girl never played softball in her life, comes on my team (me a 1st year coach), about half way into the season, she's playing 3rd base for us. Bases loaded. Batter smacks a liner right at her. She stabs it out of the air, (one out) takes two steps and steps on 3rd base (the runner had taken off before she caught it, so two outs). Inexperienced base runner on 2nd sees the runner on 3rd take off, so she heads towards 3rd and my 3rd baseman looks at her and runs her down before she can get back to 2nd (third out). UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY!

Now, the kid doesn't realize what she just did. She walks back to 3rd base and gets ready for the next play! :laughing: Half the adults in the stands don't realize what she just did. I'm standing there SCREAMING!!!! at the top of my lungs with joy! My assistant coaches are dancing like idiots. The girls on our team go wild. It is the holy grail of baseball plays and I got to thinking I hope her dad was watching over her. It was one of the highlights of my short coaching career. (That, and being able to coach my own daughters.)

Anyhow, I see her around from time-to-time at sporting events. I ask her what she's thinking about for college and future, etc... she always says she wants to go into victim counselling (as her mom did after her husband was killed). But the last time I saw her a few months ago, she said she changed her mind and wants to go into law enforcement.

Last I knew in Portland gta was a ticket, its lovely in Oregon when it comes to car theft. All you have to do is cut a car in half and u can scrap it w/o a title, go figure the high car theft rate there, and since we live just across the border the theft in southern wa is very high also..........

So B.I.L. tells us the guy that stole his truck drove it 1200 miles in two weeks, installed a bully-dog unit and burned all the tires off of it. Truck is a mess. Goodness knows how much damage he did to engine and drive train. B.I.L. thinks he'd be better off if they hadn't found it.

Moss... that has been in the back of my mind... suppose to have a call from the adjustor Monday and talk settlement... just have not been able to find an apples for apples comparable.

My brothers 68 Mustang was stolen and recovered less the interior, tires, wheels... Insurance paid at $6500 and let him buy it back for $300...

Ten years later he sold to a guy in New Zealand for $7500...

Talked to B.I.L. two days ago.... 19 year old kid broke out the back window, screw driver-ed the ignition. Sold two dirt bikes, pickup bed tool box, put bully-dog tuner in it and proceeded to beat the snot out of it. Cops saw pickup truck with garbage bag taped over rear window, ran plates, did not match truck, tried to pull over and kid ran it 7 miles into the woods. Cops caught kid.

B.I.L. was on way home in Georgia using U-Haul to tow camper back home to Indiana when notified by cops that they found truck. Turned around and towed camper back to Florida. Truck has damaged front bumper, grill and hood. Something heavy was in bed, as the front of the bed has been pushed into the cab, so bed and cab are damaged, too. Bully-dog tune is so violent that B.I.L. can NOT not spin the tires when attempting to start. Surprisingly, it gets 22MPG! They had to buy 2 new rear tires. Had to take is to a diesel shop to get it de-tuned. Mechanic says engine and tranny are probably not damaged as the waste-gate was still functioning properly. Had to pay $350 to get truck out of tow yard. Only $40 was for the storage. The rest was because it took two tow trucks and 4 guys several hours to get it out of the woods. Had to pay $1500 to U-Haul because the returned the truck to someplace other than the agreed upon destination in Indiana, so they treated it as a daily use rental. B.I.L. said at that point, with fuel, it would have only saved them 2-3 hundred dollars and they'd have to drive it to Indiana, so it was not worth it.

B.I.L. has 19 year old kid's cell phone. Cell phone rings. Kids parents are looking for kid. Kid hasn't told them about adventure. B.I.L. gives them some colorful talk about their Massey Ferguson son stealing his Massey Ferguson truck and he's in the Massey Ferguson jail, Massey Ferguson. Silence on the phone, followed by sobbing mom. Dad tells B.I.L. he'll try to find the missing items and apologizes for his son.

Oh, and one more thing.... police tell B.I.L. that the kid got some girl pregnant, she had and abortion, and the kid and a friend "may have" used B.I.L.'s truck to drive by her house and fire shots at her house.

B.I.L. is supposed to be home tonight.... and we thought South Bend was a bad place to live! :laughing:
