Appreciate the update... we have thought what if the car was found as hulk on the side of the road...

Still will keep an eye out and I would recognize it if I see it... even if it is years from now.

So far no settlement offered by the insurance... closest I found was the same year and mileage 3 states away at a Ford Dealer... asking price of $8,950... most have been in the 6 to 6,500 range with a lot more miles...

Blue Book is $5500...

Hate to say it, but with teams of lawyers, they're apt to give you blue book price. Best of luck. If you get more, I'd love to hear how the conversation went with the insurance company.

While Mom and I were at the Toyota Dealer we noticed a super clean 2002 Camry and Mom said she liked it... a man came over and said he had flown up from Santa Barbara to buy it...

We got to talking and his 2002 with the same mileage was stolen a few weeks back... insurance was only going to offer book... he said he found the identical Camry in San Francisco for sale for $9600 and was told if he bought it the insurance would pay for it... so off to San Francisco he went.

Now that Mom has a replacement car it would still be great if hers was recovered... but, we are no longer in the market to buy a car...

Still paying for it on her insurance as we were advised since she is legal owner... also told to let the tags expire since we filed a police report... I just know this will be one big headache since California will garnish wages and suspend licenses for delinquent tags...

How long do you have to keep paying insurance on a stolen car?

Also, B.I.L. got his dirt bikes back.... NOT in good shape. They removed pretty much every number, sticker, decal, and painted black anything they could not remove. Tires are worn funny, too. Busy little felonious beavers.

Sounds to me sorta like mom is out a car, unless you do a Rambo and steal it back, with a rubber check, like.

Just a final update...

It's been 9 weeks since Mom's Corolla was taken... despite our best efforts... reality is reality.

Insurance offered a settlement of approximately $7500 net and Mom accepted.

At least we have an album full of pictures and 14+ years of memories covering the day it was built forward.

Have to say the insurance company seemed reasonable throughout and I kept them updated with similar Corolla's from my nationwide searches... in 9 weeks, looking at many thousands of Corolla's for sale, I was never able to find a duplicate of hers as far as factory equipment... found a few with low mileage matching hers and these were going for premium prices.... which did help.

Appreciate everyone's suggestions and help on this.

On a side note... she has adjusted to her 10 year newer replacement Corolla S and seems almost at home... and especially likes the keyless entry and factory alarm!

A few acquaintances have questioned why she went to the expense to secure a replacement car since she only drives about 75 miles a week... simple answer is independance to go to the market and help out at the church... never a ticket, accident of claim in 60+ years driving...

Mom's best response as to why is when she says her license is still good for another 3 years!

We found her replacement at Toyota of San Francisco and poor mom had the job of driving her new car home of a Friday night, in rush hour traffic, through San Francisco and then over the Bay Bridge following me... she did fine but said let's not do this again!

Not too often... but Mom did say it today... hey... I've only got one Mom and she sacrificed a lot for me and my brothers... plus isn't Mother's Day around the corner?

It's been 14 months since anyone has stayed at the family cabin... suggested we should take a run up the cabin next week and give her new car a road trip since it's still covered by the Toyota Certified warranty. She has wanted to get up there for the longest time... thankfully, we share a drive with a year round neighbor that is a semi-retired contractor and keeps an eye on things... so next week it's Tahoe... that is if it stops snowing... no snow most of the winter and it's snowing today!

Especially appreciate your help Moss and your brother's saga just shows how things could have been worse!

Road trip sounds fun. My folks are long, long gone, but my wife's folks treat me like their own.

Brother-in-law's saga is winding down. They're getting enough insurance money to cover the damages to the truck and dirtbikes. However, they had about $6000.00 worth of tools and personal belongings in the truck/toolbox that they have to come up with receipts for to get covered under homeowner's insurance, minus the deductible, of course. Fortunately, his wife is pretty darn good at keeping receipts. A plug for Pay-Pal... she said anything she purchased with that in the past 10 years still shows up on there! Wow! All-in-all, they figure they'll be out $3000-$4000 plus time and aggravation.

So, its a good time to take a complete home inventory with pictures and descriptions, keep a copy on DVD at home and another in the bank's safety deposit box, then up your homeowner's insurance to match because most folks have no idea what they actually have, especially the older you get, the more you accumulate.

I Offer sympathy for those suffering losses by thieves...And for those dealing with insurance companies.
I also have two insurance claims in process. (With State Farm). They seem difficult with their demands for documentation and are very sticky with appraisals..Two different highly qualified appraisers hae recommended write off of my crushed boat..and so they want a third one. Claim was made on 14 Febuary...and I have yet to get a settlement offer from them. Frustrating on either claim. State Farm is pulling out of Canada very soon .So I think they are stalling so their successor will have the loss, not them. Nothing I can do to speed it up. Yeah, so I am taking my lumps.:yell:
